Getting New tyres on friday for my Bravo 1.4 SX, Not too keen on what size to get. At the moment the alloys i want to use are 205/55/16 and obviously too big, I was thinking of 205/45/16 tyres, Or would that profile still be too big? Someone help me please!

Maybe 205/40/16?

Could you not put a tape measure on the sidewalls and imagine? I'd imagine that 205/40s'll be a bit too small but you won't know 'till yah see 'em

Alternatively. When you go to get them fitted, ask 'em to grab a few sizes and hold 'em up against your existing wheels?

The difference between 205/55R16 & 205/45R16 is 10% of 205mm – i.e. 205(55%-45%) = 20.5mm. Effectively the sidewall is reduced from 112.75mm to 92.25mm – i.e. by 20.5mm.

I believe(?) the within spec tyres are designed to roll somewhere around 883 (±6) revs/ml. A 205/55R16 rolls at 811 revs/ml – & clearly way outside the normal within spec range. Whereas 205/45R16 (867) & 205/40R16 (898) fall within ±2% of 883 revs/ml.

But the choice of 205/40R16 is fairly narrow, the price likely to be much higher (unless you go Chinese) & with a 40% sidewall, you’ll probably end-up funding your dentists new car.
