Hey,

I recently bought a Punto (2001 ELX 1.2l 8V) and have two minor problems that I'm hoping to fix - looking to see how.

The first is the rear window washer, which isn't spraying water onto the window. There seems to be enough water coming out of it, but the angle is off and it's running into the groove just above the window and running off the sides.

The manual seems to say I can change the direction of the nozzles but I can't seem to see how - maybe someone could point me in the right direction here. It might also be a pressure issue and I tried cleaning the nozzles with a pin but it made no difference - I'm hoping it's nothing more than an angle issue!

The second problem is with the air conditioning, which only comes on when I switch it to '4'. My girlfriend's Rover has the same problem and it's not the worst thing in the world - it just means I have to have all or nothing when it comes to cooling/heating the car!

Is this a common problem and if so is there an easy fix? Perhaps there's just something wrong with the switch?

Thanks for any help or suggestions you may have!

(One last thing - what's the best way to check coolant levels in the car? I can see the Min/Max level on the outside but can't see the liquid mark so can't gauge where it is within that!)

You usually change the angle of the nozzle by using a pin and moving the small hole to a slightly diffrerent direction. If that dosent work it may be a pressure issue, do your front nozzels spray properly?

As for the heater fan settings, its the resistor that controls fan speed that needs replacing. Can get a new from from a scrappies/breakers and fit. I believe there is a guide somewhere on this site for it.

I find the best way to check the coolant levelwas when cold, remove the expansion bottle cap and shine a tourch down inside the bottle. The look at the makrs on the outside at the same time and you can see the level more visably.

I did give that a go earlier but didn't seem to change things - will try again tomorrow.

The front washers seem to work fine - pressure is spot on.

Thanks, will have a look around the site for that!

Great, thanks.

i had a similar problem with my blowers, had to buy a new resistor bit that the knob connects to, was like £20 or something and pretty easy to fit, theres defo a guide about, i bought mine from fiat cause i got no scrappies close. the part number on the piece was B837, i think you can quote that? :)

Just resurrecting this thread to follow up on it.

I followed this guide today to open up the panel in the car - once opened I unscrewed the central knob that controls the air speed but when I tried to pull it out it only came out a little bit.

I'm guessing it's wired in quite tightly and I can't pull it out enough to actually see the wiring or even the back of the piece. As suggested it's marked as a B837 (12V) so I know it's what I'm looking for, I'm just trying to figure out how I can actually remove it now!

Any suggestions? Can't seem to find any guides that shed more light on the matter, just one for the Mk1 which has a different set-up.

Thanks.
