I once tried to get a mobil oil equivalent to the Selenia and then gave up. The 1.4 16V seems to need 10w-40w but the site above recommends 5w-40w. Note that it does not list the TA.

I just use the Shell Oill. The Shell Helix Ultra is 10w-40 and the Shell Helix Ultra Extra is 5w-30. The price difference is not so high so i guess its best to go for the 5w-30 even if Fiat recommends the 10w-40 for the 1.4 100 HP engine!

Where else could we be talking about those lovely 500cc beans (ok so they aren't 500cc anymore).one minute and in the next be doing amatuer Freudian analysis of dreams! This is my kinda town!

Thx to you all for all the dualogically great feedback you gave me! I am still interested on mpg efficiency with the super duper robotised box.

I'm a geek so am having kittens at the prospect of having a car with a robot in. Thinking of calling mine Slave 1 (think Boba Fett's ship had this name) as and when i grab one.

Another question is do you all think there will be in a few months, more used dualogic units available, as wifey wants me to go for a used model, but I am not sure. I have nev had a brand new car, do think there is a bit of that in the too, but also to ve able to get exactly the car I want is a biggie for me.


Has anyone found the auto boxes to bed in as well as some of the manuals have here?

The chances of getting a Twin air with a dualogic and the spec you're looking for will be like finding a 'needle in haystack'. I was driven bonkers looking for a 500 in spec that did it for me but I'm now on the path to recovery .

However, of course, really warm weather and the compressor is engaged driving fuel consumption down again.

Another refill at 1428 miles, 49.3 mpg according to fuelly, 48.5 according to the average consuption indicator on the car.

I have posted before that my wife bought a Twin Air Sport, which we got in January, and we have now done 1700 miles and she has been disappointed with both the fuel economy and performance (especially on the motorway). She previously had a 1.4 Sport.
Anyway she had enough and last week ordered a new Abarth 500, they are taking in the Twin Air in PX (Yes she will loose a fortune, but at least the APR interest will be far lower than she is currently paying)
Our twin air was called back by Fiat on a Re-call last week and we yet again complained about the poor economy (Fuelly 38.2mpg) and performance and after investigation it appears that the Knock Sensor was not working and it was replaced. Apparently a few new Twin Airs have been found with this problem!
Anyway this weekend we took the car for a long run (mix of motorway / country roads) and the difference is staggering. Good performance on motorway , and avereage mpg 50.5! It is like a different car and great fun - we have been missing out on this for 10 weeks!

Problem is do we still go for the Abarth?

Hi Nick, I was in exactly the same position as you find yourself now, disappointed with the TwinAir and keen on an Abarth. However, my TA was never sorted so I went the A500 route and haven't regretted it one bit (apart from the financial hit).

As yours has now been mended and your wife is happy with the car then I would stay with it and resist going for a test drive in an Abarth. Once driven you might just end up signing on the dotted line, lol.

Of course, if you have already ordered the Abarth then you now have a harder decision to make, good luck anyway with whatever you decide.

I seem to recall being "poo-poo'd" by some forum members when I said that holding back on buying an early TA was legitimate because of the risk of new technology teething problems. I was told that everything in the TA was "tried and tested" and so this was an unnecessarily cautious approach.

Perhaps it was not such bad advice afer all?

By the way, that last line is shocking! I'm sure you left that conversation feeling delighted with your oh-so-wonderful 38mpg...

I've mentioned before that we're getting around 45mpg with give and take motoring in our TA.

Yesterday I decided to really try to be as economical as possible on a late night trip to pick up my daughter. I zeroed the trip meter once I was on the local A road and drove very carefully up to the town where she was.

I changed up as soon as suggested even though I think it is too soon, but the results were 68mpg there and 64mpg round trip including side and rural roads back here. The total journey was twenty miles.

It can be done but I'd hate to do that with traffic about- it was painfully slow building up speed at times.

The Twin Air Re-call is for the electric cables which sit below the battery - apparently they are too exposed. Although they fixed our engine (see previous post) they were unable to fix the cable as they are still awaiting parts.

Yeah I get about 45, as I say I never use ECO, and it gets some reasonably hard driving. Every tank is an improvement though, I am only now just at 1000 miles.

Personally i like both the TA and the A500. Both opposite extremes though and you say you bought the TA for economy, so opting for an A500 is possibly not the best choice if economy is a priority. You'll see anywhere between 30 and 35 average, but expect 40 + on a long run. Like any car, it can be driven to achieve high MPG figures, but that's not the point of the Abarth!

The TA in my opinion has the character of a 'warm' hatch, rather than an economy model. Hence people seem to get the mpg they are getting. The car likes being driven hard.
