Fun is such a subjective thing :)

Back in Australia I used to go to quite a few rallies and this meant driving on gravel roads a lot. my 504 was so much fun. The suspension was pretty much all original and you could absolutely pound the crap out of it on rough gravel roads and it never complained.

The 500 is loads of fun in and around town and being light and with wide tyres mine is fun on the twisty stuff too :)

Cool, I had a 1991, only covered 8000 miles when I got it and it was something like 3000 less than new price. I remember insurance was over £1,000 at the time and didn't do the chipping etc. I had to get one of those plug in immobiliser things fitted and a top end alarm just to get it insured.

The funniest thing that happened in mine(Well wasn't really funny but..) The alarm was very good and never went off, then one night it did, it had been raining and I noticed one of the back windows didn't look right when I looked out to see why my alarm was going off. I went outside and someone had carefully cut out the rear quarter glass, and slid it under the car. I had a baby seat in the back so I guess they had trouble getting in and the alarm went off so they ran off!!!

In those days I was doing shift work in London so got to have fun in my car, got pulled a few times.. I remember the days before cameras speed humps..
:Offtopic:
Came across this review of the top 100 cool cars in this month's Nuts ! magazine. Having had a Black RS (it was the II model) and the A595 directly below it I thought it was a nice bit of trivia.

just started a new project in Kew and the TA is really coming into its own with 48-50mpg on my 100 mile round trip commute and such a great car for getting around London in

Used our brand new as of Saturday TA+ on the commute today. 52 miles on a mixture of A, B & M ways with minimal traffic.

Used Eco where possible but not on the M6 as it felt too gutless, being so new.

Anyway, 46.9mpg on trip B and that included a fair few 80mph miles on the 42/6. I usually get 22 max in my Brera.

Very happy & surely this will only get better with age(y)

PS. The car has a third of the cylinders & BHP and a quarter of the CC but I still had fun & love the car already:cool:

Day 2 of my daily commute. MPG is 45.6, down slightly from the 46.9 yesterday as I came on the M40 this morning.

Considering it's brand new and very tight, that's good going and I expect it will only get better(y)

As a car, I love it. Really good seats, effective climate control, brilliant brakes & gearchange, good ride and pin sharp handling. Quiet, refined, feels very solid too:D

So, overall, pretty much smitten and so glad we got to keep the V6 GT too:cool:

Pin sharp handling? Are you sure you got a 500? There's loads of grip, but the handling is in no way pin sharp!

I agree with Maxi that the handling isn't quite pin sharp. Bear in mind, though, that I think he's got an older model, and they've improved the rear suspension more recently. My 2011 Twinair Lounge compares reasonably well with the (BMW) Mini Cooper that preceded it, and it certainly rides better, even on my optional 16" alloys.
Glad you like it Rosso, I'm still smitten with mine after 16 months and 14000 miles.

Update at the end of week one:-

Well. It's easily coping with everything I can throw at it & I continue to be amazed just how together this little car is(y)

Done a fair bit of motorway stuff, all at the usual 85mph yet consumption for the weekly commute stands at 44.6!mpg.

The only thing I can think of as a critiscm is the seat is a bit high but comfort & driving position is excellent.

Used her for a 170 mile motor way blast to Swansea yesterday.

No problem with a long weekends luggage in the boot & really comfortable for my wife with our Westie in the footwell and me driving.

Eco mode is fine on the flat or downhill but you need to turn it off if you want grunt.

I drove it at the speeds I drive the Brera so averaged 68mph despite 2 sets of SPECS enforced 40mph roadworks on the M50.

Consumption was 38mpg in the end but that included taxiing four people around Morriston later in the day, all who said how comfortable & roomy it was for a small car.

So, yet another environment where she works perfectly:D

It's amazing how the mpg drops on the TA when it's 4 up. Another guy on here reported 33mpg when he took some liberties. Also having the more 'powerful' engine compared with the 1.2 means that it can deliver when you need it most and means that it can put the miles in. The performance does come at a price but at least you have a choice.

I wonder how long that Brera is going to last ?

Got a far more respectable 48mpg on the 170 mile journey home:D

Legal limit plus no more than 10%.

Two large adults, a boot full of luggage & a Westie with the climate control on full tilt(y)

That's about par for the course I'm experiencing similar on long journeys (Mostly Motorway) with 2 up and luggage. Sorry don't have a Westie(y)

Yes, 48mpg cruising around the legal motorway limit seems standard. I get that when 2-up. If you are cruising at steady speed, it's the air drag that burns the fuel. Extra weight only comes into play when accelerating (or going uphill).

Phew! It's taken me a while (3 days!) but finally finished reading this thread!

I was interested in the Twin Air engine as a potential choice when I spec a new 500 later in the year.

I'm currently driving a 1.2 pop (bought last month used from a main dealer) and averaging low 40's mpg wise but I'm new to the car and the eco driving concept, infact I'm just getting confident enough in the car to drive a little faster on B roads.

I'm no boy racer, just like drive briskly occasionally and economically at other times. The car is used mainly on B roads and urban environment with a monthly blast on the dual carriageway.

It seems that the TA would be a good fit for me, bit of power for putting the foot down and ECO mode for sensible MPG and driving elderly mum to the shops!

I can't wait to test drive a TA!
