Hello all,

I have a 4x4 panda TwinAir which feels down on power. In eco mode it feels fine.

From researching about on here it seems intercooler pipes can split, so the turbo looses pressure. Makes sense with the way the car drives.

I've been having a poke about and I can feel a very definite crack (about an inch long) on what I believe is the intercooler pipe.

So before I order a new one, please can someone tell me, if the pipe I have my finger on in the picture is in fact the intercooler pipe?

Many thanks.

Ps. These little cars a brilliant!

In hot weather I have noticed a marked fall off in power on many turbo'd cars. My experience of turbo pipes is if there is a problem it will be a very big drop in power not just a bit of a lack of power. There are some posts on the forum about turbo actuator rods wearing that could be relevant. I think the performance on the TA does seem to be weather and athmospheric condition dependant more than on others I have had. Try it at night whem its cooler and see if it feels better before jumping in too far. Sometimes I can tell little difference between eco on and off, others it makes a big difference.

Take care with that little pipe that feeds into the bigger one the joint is brittle. Slip the black clip up and gently pull it off before starting on the big pipe. Get the right plers to remove the hose clips too (US PRO tools Ebay are only avery few £ and good quality).

Thanks!
Have ordered the correct pliers and will give it a go with duck tap first to see if it feels healthier.
Will let you know how I get on.

The little pipe into big pipe is on the top pipe -- but in the photo, I think its the lower pipe (the return from the intercooler) that's being pointed at - so may not an issue...?

You're correct it's the lower pipe, I'll need to disconnect the fat pipe with the clip from the airbox to get access

Does it make a sound ?

Im still chasing my poor running niggle..

And have recently realised that I seem to get a 'blowing exhaust' type of vague roar when my
'misfiring occurs'

Of course with the undertray fitted half of the culprits are out of sight 🤷
No noise from it.

The exhaust does blow a bit from where I had a new flexipip welded in though!

If your TA is a higher mileage example a fair few running issues can be laid at the door of the "wastegate" - the spindle for the bypass valve in the exhaust manifold wears quite badly over time causing erratic operation and this does affect power delivery quite noticeably. How do I know? My TA 4x4 needed a new exhaust manifold at 100k - the complete unit with turbo and acutator can be found for around £450 in most motor factors. Pig of a thing to change....

Hi,i am about to remove the same intercooler pipe and dont know the correct pliers to get ,can you please give me a link, best regards neil

I ended up cutting the clips off in the end and when I replaced the hose (which had a 2 inch crack/hole in it) it refitted it with jubilee clips.

About to do this myself, is it a bumper off, radiator out job?

Sorry for tardy follow up. What was the outcome. Ive seen a similar problem with a Renault 5 GT Turbo. That used to be OK a while then the split would open and the power fall off was drastic. After q while it would close up and for a short time it would go OK again. You won't likely hear anything and duct tape will do a temp fix easily. Let us know the final outcome. If it were me the bumper would go first. careful not to break fixing clips and watch fog light wires and poss temp sensor wire.
