Treating myself to a new TV :)

Treating myself to a new TV :)

So much in the market place, like everything else which one? Two Christmases ago I treated myself to Sony 42" top of the range along with a surround sound system. I'm still more than happy with my choices now.

Every one will have their own take on things. My advise would be, get yourself on to one of the TV forums & start reading. Loads of advise & information on there. I spent days going through a TV forum before I made up my mind. Sorry can't do the link. Happy hunting.

All I would say is get it from Richer Sounds. They are already fairly cheap and can get a 5 year guarantee for just 10% of the price. This works out way cheaper than most other place! Also if you go in store you might be able to knock a bit off the price.

In addition, keep an eye out on here for your local store

I got my TV from there at a really low price.

bear in mind you get that back if you don't claim on the warrenty.

though theres a limited claim period

Plasmas are known for better blacks. From my experience there's nothing noticeable in it. That's comparing my 40" Samsung LCD to my Mum's 52" Samsung plasma. The only thing I do notice is that her screen ghosts more, and seems to suffer with temporary screen burn from OSDs and the like (despite anti-burn etc being on)

Indeedy, and it's very handy having one of their stores within walking distance! :slayer:

I didn't know that :D I'll need to make sure I remember that in 4 years time!!

plasma for films and HD television. LCD for gaming. what do you do the most of?

i have a panasonic 42" television and it is bob on. its the best TV i have ever owned. was tempted by toshibas as well because of the price.

I dont have a high opion of samsung. everything i have owned by them broke just out of warranty. this is netbooks, DVD players, phones and televisions. three of my friends have had reasonably expensive sammys go blink on them. i just dont see what the fascination is with samsung

Just thought you should know, the TV you linked to is not full HD(1080).

Full HD(1080) must have at least 1920×1080 pixels.

The one you linked to only has 1024 x 768 pixels.

Also its refresh rate is 600hz, if you were watching football on it the ball would disappear sometimes when kicked, in fact when watching a fast moving snooker ball would probabely blur.

The new standard for TV's refresh rate is now called Clear Motion Rate.

So given the above, if your going to look for another TV also consider what other services you want to view on it.

I.E. do you have downloaded or home movies to watch?
If you do not have a purpose made movie player some tv's will play movie through the USB or even an ethernet port.
I would take a few divx and MKV movies (rated for kids) on a USB stick (FAT32) and try them on the tv before buying.

Also go for as many HDMI sockets as you can get as everything plugging into it will use one now.

I mostly watch motorsport or rugby, play xbox or watch mainly action styled movies if that makes a difference,

I never even noticed that :O lol

My uncle pointed me towards the panasonic viera or the panasonic GT30? Think thats what they were called anyway :)
