How did they fail out of interest? No known brake issues with the Aygo, only accelerator pedal issues, and this was only on the automatic versions with Toyota MMT transmission (equivalent of Fiat Dualogic box).

You ought to try driving a Forklift truck and have the steering fail due to a bust ram hose...... then you have no control and wheels end up pointing in which ever direction they like
The article does say about 'insufficient hardness' (cue childish guffaws ) which was probably lost slightly in translation. I wonder if the supplier was cutting corners & using sub par materials? They talk about the splines bending as extra pressure is applied to the steering shaft.
I say good on Toyota.
A pity other marques can't be so good when it comes to taking responsibility for their shoddy products.
