My 04 Multipla has started to develop what I think is torque steering. It's done 105k and not shown any signs of this before now.

When I accelerate from 'say' fifty mph, usually on a motorway or other 'A' road, it veers to the left. When I take my foot off the gas, it tries to go back to the right. Although the deviations aren't major, they're certainly noticeable and I'm concerned they're going to get worse.

Anyone have any idea as to what's going on?

The bushes on the lower wishbone arms are worn and the need replacing. The cheapest way to do this is replace the whole wishbone. At that mileage it would be best to replace both.

An honest garage could do both in about an hour and the cost of the wishbones can be as low as £70 plus shipping.

It's a straight-forward job if you want to tackle it yourself but allow 3-4 hours working on the floor!
Four screws and ball joint on both sides.

Thanks both for the quick responses. Seeing as the audience agree one hundred percent, I think I shall go along with you.

However, I seldom do anything on the floor that doesn't involve alochol, so it looks like my local garage are in for a treat.

Many thanks

Might be cheaper if you are paying for labour to have them change both arms. My MOT man insisted on changing the bushes as it would be cheaper, he ended up finishing the car at 8pm instead of 5pm as the bushes weren't as easy as he thought. I think I saved a fiver in costs but lost the car for nearly a whole day!

FIAT main dealers will only swap the arms and given the cost of labour there, they are right to.
