Re: Road Angel

Anyone who claims 147mph from an HGT or 135 from a 1.8 16v cannot be telling the truth.

Plus it is not big or clever or cool or hard or wicked or phat.

what!!!! whos not telling the truth i have a picture of my car doin it and about 6 people witnessed on 2 different occasions!!!
wait till my fone stops saying network fail and i will post the picture up and prove u wrong!!
OK!!!!!!!

Re: Road Angel

its a definate overreading mate. unless you have tinkered with the gearing etc and you were in the car on your own for a start it would not be possible.

Re: Road Angel

right last time the speedo said 150mph ok!!!! the bloke running along side me didn't have a speedo on his trainers but the mr2 i was racing at the time said 145mph unless they all make cars that the speedo are no way near accurate then u are all right.
BUT WHEN I CAN POST THIS PICTURE OF MY SPEEDO I WILL!!!!!

Re: Road Angel

wait a min i think the speedo only goes up 2 145 hmmmm il have to check on that!!! just think about it?? sorry some 1 with a hgt have a look??

Re: Road Angel

It'll take more than that to prove me wrong Ant. Put simply you look at the stats for the Peugeot 306 GTI-6. It has 20bhp more than ya 147 and weighs the same yet its top speed is 135mph. Then we take the honda Civic Type R. 197Bhp and weighs less than a bravo HGT. Yet this car tops out at 145Mph. How about the Alfa 145 2.0 Cloverleaf - 155bhp, same weight, 131Mph! and finally, Alfa 147GTA (3.2V6) - 247Bhp and yet 153mph top speed. so i can deduce that its 100bhp advantage over your 147HGT gives it a measly 6mph top speed.

Somebodys winning!

Re: Road Angel

Plus the fact the GTA is limited at 155mph (yup, it's true!)

Re: Road Angel

Obviously deano!

But I'm refering to my argument against a 147HGT doing 150Mph :)
and a 113bhp car doing 135mph :)

Re: Road Angel

Yes, i know!
Was only kidding :)

HGT's are geared for around 132-135 (that's the 147 and 155 respectively).

They cannot go faster under they're own steam. Simple fact here is that your car CAN read silly figures. The point being (and a very simple point it is) that when doing the higher-end speeds, the speedo can become inaccurate. That's why it can read silly speeds even though the car will not be geared for it.

Quite simple really.

Re: Road Angel

Thats a 'simple point' that you havent explained!

you need to say WHY it reads strange.

the debate rages on! :)

Re: Road Angel

The question IS NOT why it reads wrong, but the fact that an hgt WILL NOT go at 145mph!!!!!!!!

Flippin turbo coupe only does 10mph over that and it's got nearly 70bhp more than an average hgt!

Why the speedo is wrong is a different matter.

Re: Road Angel

why oh why is my speedo sayin that then and the revs almost going into the red??

Re: Road Angel

I know only these things:

1. a standard 147 or 155Bhp Hgt cannot do one hundred and forty seven miles per hour.
2. a 1.8 113bhp Bravo cannot, as standard, achieve 135mph.
3. the HGT bravo speedo goes to 160mph, therefore if you are saying its gone 'all the way around' you must be doing 160mph and not 147mph which is even more far fetched! :)

All i want is an explanation for why so many people wildly claim their bravo's are so fast and why the speedometers enter some sort of 4th dimensional mind of their own at such claimed speeds! :)

sort that pic out Ant! :)
