top speed??

whilst racing my mate with his mr2 2.0 16valve which can i say is no competition for the HGT i got my speedo all the way round and the needle wouldn't go round anymore but it was still picking up revs!!
has any1 got the speedo all the way round the clock??
or is my hgt just wierd??

I think your HGT is wierd. What revs were you doing ?
The fastest I have got out of my HGT (MK1) is 137.

I think yours is weird Martin! My I have got 135 out of my 1st HLX (havent tried it in my new one) but she was FLAT out! you HGT must have had more steam left?

Speedo's can go quite outta whack at those speeds. Neither speed for hgt's or hlx's would be accurate at those speeds. That hlx one also seems tooooooo steep for a 1.8 bravo

speedos are definately well out, and depends on other conditions,

i aparently had 130 out of my old 1.6 brava if you go by the speedo

My HGT hit the rev limiter at just over 150mph on a steep down hill.

Didnt notice the speedo stop turning, as i only looked down, when the limiter kicked in.

@DeanoBravo... just saying what the speedo said!!! My new one hits 120 easily and has lots more go! but i dont want to take this one up to 135 like the other because i want this one to last me 5years!!! (well 2 at least!)

I don't doubt that's what you read at all!!!

What i'm saying is at those speeds, the counter can be mis-leading. I've done 130 once and the car seemed to have much more left in it. HGT's are only geared for around 132-135mph.

I agree, the speedo might have said 150mph on mine, but in reality i suspect more around 138-140mph. (rolling on 17's)

I have no doubt the speedo was out...But at the same time i have 17's too so they should have compensated something (no alot)

Someone is bound to correct me on this...i believe fiats speeds and accelerating figures are all done with three people and 20kg luggage aswell! so with one off you in there going for it you should expect more then the fiat figure!

lol - yeah, the figures do seem a bit outta whack. Especially the 0-60 time of my hgt.

But don't forget that even with 17's with low profile tires, the diamter increase to a standard hgt wheel really is negligible. Have measured various diameters of alloys against my standard. I also know for a fact if you run some 17's with the ultra low-profile falkens, the hgt wheel is larger in diameter by a few inches!

it mya be similiar diameter, but if your getting that exact they are wider which would prob effect it. and also they are more solid sidewalls etc etc. also the weight of the wheels is different etc etc! lol

best way is to buy a road angel that has a gps speedo built in!

my mate has one but he hard wired it into his and ran all the cable through his dash before i had a chance to steal it for a day or two!

It may have some slight effect, but the diamter is the key. Smaller wheels cover less distance per revolution - so you'd expect a slightly quicker acceleration time - but as a consequence top end speed would be reduced.
It's pretty much the opposite for larger diameter wheels.

Not happy going faster - although the car is more than willing, I am not

Track/airfield/road/whatever.. at those speeds I don't think I could handle something going wrong. I'd rather play safe than risk seeing what the car can do.

iv only got the stardard 15s on with 195 45 tyres and the mr2 was showing 145mph when i started creeping in front of him!! i have the picture on my fone of my speedo doing about 147 the last time i almost got it off the clock!!! but couldn't do it the other nite!!
yes i do hav a death wish (taking a picture whilst driving) and no there wasn't any cars on the road at the time!!
iv all ways said i want to die in my car!!!

Top Speed

I just bought my 1.8 HLX with the standard 15" Alloys ive had 127 mph and still going fine down the m62 on the way home from work lol but dnt wanna try it again lol it had a laxative effect on me nearly lol,worrying when the side winds hit me, felt like i was gonna end up in the hard shoulder lol
