... getting wet :(

Not much progress the last couple of weekends but I have done:

doortrim1.jpg

(yes, thats REAL carbon fibre!)

and:

surround.jpg

Take one autoleads facia adapter and:
* make it fit (was actually quite easy, just a few mins with a stanley knife)
* modify it so the head unit now sits about 1" further forward
* smooth it out with a good gob of bodyfiller
* carbon fibre the bloody thing ;)

that looks brilliant that like, well done, is it hard to use carbon fibre i might have a play with it myself one day, are u planning on doing the whole of the dash? u should deffo do the handle on your glove box and it should go together nicley with the rest of the bits you have done

Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

Its a total whore to work with as the edges keep coming unwoven.

I might do the speedo surround in CF. Next job is the a-pillar covers.

Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

today i have mostly been watching man u lose.:ROFLMAO:. HA HA HA HA

Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

How much CF have you got, 'cos i think if you done the whole door panel and smooth in your (sweet) speaker surround, it would look the danglies ;)

What else are you planning to CF?

Also...Have you got a cheap source for the CF, because i was thinking of doing something in a few weeks (hush-hush), and i havent found any cheap places yet...if not i will have to stick with F/Glass...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

It would not be suitable to cover the door as the door is too flexible. I'd have to mould the door and then make a CF version. TOOOO much work :)

I got my CF free cos a mate builds racing yachts, http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/ is about the cheapest I've found. You've gotta use a clear resin though, SP320 or a West resin (dunno the part code) and 1kg of SP320 is about £35 :(

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

TOO MUCH WORK!!!

You must be getting lazy in your old age...;)

Thanks for the link, but i already had it, along with their catalogue...:)

Gonna start ordering some stuff soon, so i gotta work out how much MDF and F/Glass i will need (I know its gonna be alot :))

your poor car, it's not going to move with all that weight... oh, wait a minute, it doesn't move! lol

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

Thats cruel Alan :)

Daz, you got ANY idea how much work I've done so far? :) Just been sitting in it listening as I've finally got all 6 front speakers wired up. Sub is not installed though. Sounds GOOOOOD!

Very few rattles.

Anyway, use ply rather than MDF, much lighter.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

By your own admission...

"Just been sitting in it listening" - my apologie, it takes a long time to sit and listen...;)

As we discussed before, when would it be alright for me to pop over and see your handy work?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

Should have some spare time in a couple of weeks.

After getting soaked earlier today finishing the passenger door I think I deserve a sit and listen ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

my comment regarding the functional state of your motor vehicle!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...

good job tom.

am i right in thinking the adaptor was a pain in the arse to do? being a small part and having all them tight edges to smooth out.

can the grey plastic on the door be spayed with interior paint, and is it any good?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Today I have been mostly...
