Basically as title says, i am looking for some tips on gaining weight

Ive never been a big bloke, but i am not the smallest person you have seen either, however ive been a bit poorly and run down the past six months and have noticed the weight loss even if it is a few lbs only, however it is lbs i can barely ill afford to lose.

As well as having a few small weights in my flat, I am a current gym goer and go 2/3 times a week and enjoy it, i got put on a programme to help with weight gain and although it has helped with body definition, it hasnt been the success i was hoping for, i wasnt expecting overnight success, however ive gained 3lb max if that, then if i am ill promptly loose it so go back to square one

Admittidly my diet can be poor but not always. There are times when i eat healthily but then there are times when i pig out on all the fatty and unhealthy foods.

Well i have decided that that has to stop and have binned all the crap today. I have bought myself a george foreman grill to grill meat on healthily and have just had a few pieces of chicken on it

I have also been doing a bit of research on the net regarding how to build up your weight naturally (without the need for pills, roids etc) and i am not eating enough meals in the day so am increasing that.

I would like some advice on meals to have, i know about protein, carbs etc etc, i am a big chicken fan but not a particular big fish fan (tuna etc) any ideas/recipes on what to eat would be ideal.

Also any other hints tips etc

I would like to add i am a diabetic and have high metabolism so any tips regarding increasing weight while not disrupting my diabetes too much is also appreciated. Perhaps this is why i am not gaining weight because of my diabtetes???

My ideal replies to this thread would be from long time gym goers, gym workers and even better a diabetic who has manged to do what i want to do sucessfully, although anyones ideas will not be discounted

My mum is 40, a diabetic and a normal weight for height. She ensures she eats the five a day, but she also eats quite a bit of carbs. Not white bread or rice as that as you will know makes your sugar level go up quite quick, but all the wholegrain stuff. She does eat quite fatty stuff like once a week such as a bacon and sausage sandwich on the weekend plus sunday roast all that kind of stuff.

Some people are naturally just quite thin

Edit: However if you have lost weight cant you have them milkshakes that build you back up with all the nutrients? My nan had some when my grandad died.

Red meats are good and shouldn't affect diabetes to much

My friend lost 12kg in 2 weeks whilst in hospital recovering from a car crash. spent a few days not eating anything.

Hes now bigger than he was as he just eats meat and fish all the time.

As emma has said, protein shakes from the likes of Maximuscle are good, especially after a workout as it help replenish the muscles

Make sure you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've been making sure I don't skip meals and with a little excercise here and there I've managed to put on 2kg over a few months. Lots of pasta though - lots of carbs would be bad for diabetics?

I was 10st 7lbs when I went to uni. By the end I was around 9st and never got it back. Slowly putting it back on - but that could just be me drinking lots of beer and getting old. haha

You need to eat a bowl of porage every day for 2 reasons:

1. It stabilizes blood sugar levels

2. It helps underweight people gain weight and overweight people loose weight.

I am speaking from experience on this

Ive just done my weekly shop £31!

I have looked on the net at meals plans etc and what foods they eat on it and have bought a lot of meat (chicken, pork and a couple of pieces of cod) which i will put on the grille over varying days, potatoes for jackets, couple bags of salad, rice (dont eat it but will give it a go) alot of fruit (like fruit) and vegetables (like them as well) some natural yoghurts, a loaf of 'best of both' bread and a few other things i cant remember, hoping i have made a good start

The only pasta i eat is spaghetti and make fresh bolognese every now and again

I dont eat porridge and have cheerios instead as a a morning cereal

I do have a box of protein shake, it isnt maximuscle as the sugar content was high in them and didnt want to risk effecting the sugar levels. I have seen pure whey protein (and maximuscles protein one) though and may be tempted to purchase that.

Are the protein chocolate bars any good to have just after a workout?
