Hi there, I’ve got a 2021 Tipo 1.0 GSE (59k) that has recently been having an intermittent misfire problem.
A few weeks ago the EML came on and it was running on 2 cylinders. I turned the engine on and off again it and it was fine for a little while till it exhibited the same issue on the way home. I plugged it into Multiscan and P0303 (cylinder 3 ignition failures) & P1471 (catalyst check) came up.
I removed cylinder 3 coil and I could see there was some oil around the spark plug. Upon removing the plug the entire thread length was very oily. I proceeded to clean the plug seat on the cylinder head and the threads as best I could. I had a new spare plug (NGK) so put that in and tightened to 18 NM. The coil looked fine; I just gave it a clean with some break cleaner. Fault codes were erased. My initial thoughts were the rocker cover, although, I could not see any seepage or leakage from the O rings. For good measure I fitted a new gasket but wasn’t convinced that was the issue.
Fast forward 2 weeks and 1000 miles, the same issue has occurred. It appears there is some seepage around the seat on the cylinder head. There is absolutely no top down leakage of oil from either the new rocker cover gasket or the MultiAir unit metal gasket. This can be seen from the image attached.
Although I find this hard to believe, it would appear that the issue is coming from within the cylinder itself or the head. Where should I go next with this? Compression test, camera down the bore, check the PCV system? What could cause this issue when the oil seepage is not coming from top down?
All thoughts appreciated on this strange one.
