was at the garage today getting my crank pulley sorted and priced up a timing belt , it will be £200 fitted but they told me i dont need one till my vans 10 yrs old or 100 thou , do other owners think this is correct?

pulley failed yesterday so had to have a new one fitted !

I've got a 55 plate 2.0 JTD Scudo and I have just had a cambelt fitted. According to my handbook the change period is 72000 miles and as I have just purchased the van with 86500 miles on the clock and no evidence of a replacement being fitted I thought it may be prudent to have it changed.
Cost was £200 including parts and labour.

mines coming up to 80thou and no evidence of one being done although last owner said 40thou , strange my garrage is talking themselves out of a job??

my timing belt was changed at 78,000 miles i was told that between 75-80,000 miles was the time to change it.

hi mrfit ,at what cost was your belt done? if you dont mind me asking

i'm not 100% on the price but i'm pretty sure it was around £100 - £130

also had my lower crank pully changed at a later date (12,000 miles later). If i'd know about the rubber spacer perishing on them i may have had the pully changed the same time.

the crank pully cost me £115
Part was £80 and £35 labour, it's only an hr job to change the pully so not really a big issue to have them changed at seperate times as i did 12,000 miles driving out of it

Hi Misfit

Welshspark here. Dude I had my timing belt and auxilary/fan belt (got both done at same time)replaced a couple of months ago on my 04 plate at 50000 miles as the fiat manual said 72000 or 5 years which ever came first, the 5 years old bit was first in my case.
But Im more interested in the bit about the rubber spacer and crank pulley, (is that the wheel the auxilary or fan belt runs on ?) Ive done 58000 from new now, should I be replacing mine yet or can I go to 80000 or so,?? what milage did you get yours replaced?

Cheers for any input mate.

its the lower crank pulley that the fan belt goes round, i got 80tho out of mine , i think the rubber perishes , its a bit like a cush drive on a motorbike rear wheel
