Hey all, I have a timing belt that keeps skipping teeth.

The engine has a new water pump, and new tensioner and the timing belt is also new.
I have tried using the old parts and it's the same, it skips on the first rotation.

The engine is a 0.7L FIRE

Any help is appreciated!

Hi 🙂

I've not owned the 750.. But have enjoyed most other FIRE motors

General issues to generate this :

A pulley being damaged,

The wrong form of belt

Damaged tensioner

A collapsing bearing

Incorrect assembly / tensioning is always an option! 🤔

So.. What happened..?

Did you do the job yourself, buy the parts yourself..?

When you reassembled the Old parts..

Did you use the Old.. Or New belt?
(they could be different)

Do tell us more 🙂

Is the camshaft seizing?
Have you recently changed the head gasket? If the gasket is fitted upside down, it cuts off the oil supply to the top end.
Position the engine with the pistons half-way up the bore. This should be the normal timing position. Then with the belt off, try to turn the camshaft.

With the wrong water pump, it should still drive it, but make nasty noises, but I'd expect the tension to keep it turning the camshaft. As said above, the water pump needs to be correct for the belt, but also check that the belt is correct for the crank and cam pulleys.
