I want to check that the timing belt tensioner has been fitted properly (with fixed and moving tension markers aligned). Is it easy to just take off the plastic shroud to get a look at the tensioner?
It's a one piece cover held on by 3 bolts. If these are undone it looks like it should slide forwards to the front of the car. It seems to be cut out to fit either side (above and below) of the engine mount
Aye! The biggest faff is getting a ratchet/allen/torx key in between the cover and the inner wing. The bolts are usually Torxes (an Allen key will undo them if they're not too corroded).
Just found out cover is a two piece affair. Undid the two bolts holding the top bit but couldn't get it off. Not sure where to pull or in which direction.
The cover will just fall away when it's undone. It doesn't have any clips or other fasteners... so there must still be another bolt in there. Two doesn't seem enough.
One of them is usually recessed and in the middle of the cover, rather than just around the edges... so have a good feel around for any "wells" that could have a bolt at the bottom.
