Reported to motor home dealer on my new to me 2007 Ducati based motor home the thump at start up
His reply 'it's normal' not sure what to do had the motor home less than 30days

its common mine did it for 5 years just sold it the new one has no knock on start

According to Fiat it is a characteristic and will cause no harm. There were many long winded discussions on motor home forums together with reverse gear judder and windscreen scuttle water ingress. The problem was sorted on the 2.3 with new engine mounts but Fiat were unable/unwilling to do so for the 3L.
I am sure that a search on the motor home forums, such as motorhome facts, for 'engine thump on start up' will give you enough reading for days.

If it was sorted by new engine mounts then there was something wrong despite fiat claiming it's a 'characteristic ' surely ?

Why start a new thread when you already had one going on this subject?

im not as tech savvy as you obviously but please do not criticise I'm trying my best

On the 2.3 the bump on start up was cured by Intervention No 1 of the Reverse Gear Judder modification i.e. Change of engine mounts. Intervention No 2 was to change the reverse gear to one with a different ratio.

Fiat could not modify the reverse gear on the 3L as there was no physical room within the gearbox. They decided therefore not to provide a modification.

You are free discuss all you wish but Fiat UK are not going to do anything about the 3L models which have the bump on start up.

Andy Stothert was very instrumental in getting Fiat to acknowledge that there were problems and you can depend upon any information he has given out.
