Hi everbody

I have a Ducato 2.2 250 2023 and I am getting now the P0238 + limp mode on every hill, even on just moderate upward slopes. After a couple of 100kms on the same day it is so bad that even a slight acceleration from 40 to 41km/h on a flat road will result in a P0238.

On the next day with a cold motor it is okayish, the P0238 only showing when doing a decent acceleration, but as the day continues it is getting worse and worse.

It is not accompanied by a P0401, indicating a clogged EGR, as I have read on threads about P0238 with older models.

I have deleted the DPF (physically removed it's interieur) some 20.000kms ago. Something must be clogged because of that. So far I've checked LP-EGR cooler, Diesel filter, air filter - all seemed okay to me. Haven't checked the HP-EGR so far, that is the next on my list.

Any thoughts on that?

Thanks a lot

when you say you 'deleted' the DPF, did you re-program the ECU to account for it's removal? I understand that's what 'delete' usually means. If you didn't, it would make sense that faults are occurring.

This new ECU is not re-programmable, so back then I disconnected 5 major sensors and simulated them. This setting worked fine for 20.000km

Thanks, I am in the process of working through those 90+ pages. From what I understand it is mainly about 1. older vehicles and 2. accompanied by some P0401, P0402, ..., which indicates some malfunctioning EGR.

I get solely the P0238 without any P040xs, so the EGR seems to be okay in my case. What else could it be?

Some later posts refer to Euro 6 and some differences. I do not know of any public docs for the 2.2 which was approx 2022 to 2024.

In answer to your last question. Sorry but who knows? Could be sticky 🦋.

Interesting to see if you get a solution but I have no ideas other than a complete strip. If not mechanical, 🤬.

Okay, thanks mate. I am still in the process of conquering those 92 pages. On page 13 I found in a comment amongst a list of devices which should be cleaned the INTERCOOLER.

That is what I did yesterday. I cleaned my water-to-air-intercooler, which was totally blocked by oil. A test drive afterwards with high revs did not produce a single P0238, so it looks promising.

If this indeed did solve my problem, I will post it in that master thread, because it seems to be the center of all P0238 wisdom here.

Think the 2022 has twin HP and LP but don't quote me 🤔.
I did qoute you. ;)

So the 2.3 l from around 2017 to around 2020 without AdBlue had twin EGR.
The 2.3 l from around 2020 with AdBlue had one EGR.
The 2.2 l from 2022 with AdBlue have twin EGR again?

My Launch lists among 324 ECM values some High Pressure EGR stuff - see file. Although I have not seen a value attached to those.

From what I could see the air tube from the air-to-water-LP-EGR-cooler enters into a T-junction which leads into the motor block, where I suppose the intake manifold should be!?

The same goes for the air-to-water-intercooler.

So I haven't seen any additional HP-EGR-valve there (but that doesn't mean, it's not there - what do I know?).

If I am going to get some values for LP- vs HP-EGR from my Launch I will post it here.

Factory dates, delivery later
2.3 twin egr sept 2016 to sept 2019
2.3 sept 2019 Single egr adblu
2.2 Single egr adblu all to current
note french delivery dates can be different to UK

My launch delivers values for HP-EGR as well as for the LP-EGR, although it's saying HP-EGR functionality is disabled!?

I was also considering the possibility, that the Intercooler is taken for the HP-EGR. There are 2 sensors at my water-to-air-Intercooler, one at the air entrance and one at the exit.

But then, why is one of the values saying "EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) High Pressure Valve Measured Position: -7.48"? There is no valve inside my intercooler
