Hi guys, I've just bought a 2004, 53 Reg Sporting 1.4.

Problem 1.... I drove the car home for 30 miles with no trouble at all. A couple of hours later when I got back in, started the car up and POWER STEERING failure came up on the dash. I turned the steering wheel and all felt fine? I turned the ignition off/on and the message has never been back. I drove for 15 minutes, about 6 miles and there were no warning or trouble at all???

Problem 2.... This is really annoying with the wet weather we have. The heater does not work, at all... Doesn't blow hot or cold air, on all four speeds... Nothing... I noticed when I had the car lights on that everything lit up, apart from the heater knobs?

Problem 3.... Small but annoying... I didn't know that these cars at the on screen computer menu. Problem is, mine only shows Speed Limiter on the menu? There are no options to change the time/date or anything....

Any help would be hugely appreciated guys.....

Thank You

Thanks for your reply, I spent most of last night on here searching through the forum. I've seen so many threads about the power steering issues. On monday I'll take the car to my local Auto store and get him to test the battery. Would I be better off getting a new battery or investing in a Battery charger?

I've studied the manual and as to problem 3, it says that when driving you can only access the Speed Limiter  my car isn't here at the moment so I can't try the menu again, I wish all problems where this simple.

get the battery tested first if not good then yea get a new one that should solve the problem as for the other problems sorry cant help you, there good here so you will get someone who will know...

hope it all works out for you..

1. The car cant stands for a while the voltage gets low and the PAS unit declines due to low power
Hence switching off and on again the voltage is much higher for 30seconds and the fault goes away

Check the battery is charged and the alternator IS charging

2. The lights around not coming on are 99% chance of blown bulbs, but the fans not working is a mystery and needs investigation
Is the fan even plugged in under the passengerside?
If 12v getting to the fan?
is the fuse okay?
is the Switch disconnected? etc etc

3. Wish i had the speed limiter - would come mighty handy!

last time i had no pumpy pumpy spinny spin from the heater motor it was due to the switchy turny thing on the dashyboard having given up the ghosties
a new one to me from upullit york soon had the old ship sailing the high seas again me hearties
bit tricky getting the old one out but if it is this then follow the guide for changing centre console bulbs to see who to get to it:)

power steering i would put down to a blip with it being a mk2b an all they do do this occasionally just to remind one what a fine piece of fiat engineering at its best it is

no idea with tother problem ,have you tried beating dash with a rolled up newspaper? wont do any good of course but it might make you feel better:D

Problem 1, probably a glitch on the power supply check the battery level and top up if necessary

Problem 2, my money is on a dead resistor pack or faulty controls some testing with a multimeter is required

Problem 3, virtually all adjustments in the menu need to be made with the engine off, exceptionally annoying when you realise 100 yards up the road you've forgotten to change the clock for summer or winter, then forget again when you've got to you destination. Repeat for a few days till you get fed up.
Ziggy the speed limiter doesn't actually limit your speed, I think it just bleeps at you when you go over the speed you set which just gets annoying, cruise control is much more useful

I've managed to sort problems 2 and 3. When I were out driving earlier that power steering failure came on again, this only happened when turning a pretty sharp corner at slow speed. The power steering didn't feel any different at all, and the city light still came on?????
