The horrible cracked bumper is finally coming off 18 months after reversing into a road sign

I have been informed that as some of the screws are quite low down the car has had to be jacked up and as the pic shows forklift style and rear wheels off :(

The new bumper is apparently a shade out but I reckon its because the car hasnt been washed for three months so the new bumper is going to look a little lighter well I hope so .

Once the new bumpers on and i've seen it i'll do a report on the company where the bumper came from.

ridiculous way to jack up a car :bang:

unless big parts of the bumper were missing (smashed instead of just cracked) you could have got a plastic repair done for ~£150, without even needing to take the bumper off.

Same price as what the new bumper cost. The crack was not a little crack I could fit my fingers through the gap. As for jacking the car up that way a stupid mistake of mine has already cost me almost £250 for new light and new bumper and other bits. Why should I take it to a garage and pay them to fit something that can be done for nothing? True it should have been done with a jack but didnt know anyone with one so did it this way.

I like Emma's "jack".
If I was using this, however, I would approach the car from the side, get the forks of the forklift truck under the chassis rails and lift the whole car up.
It would give amazing access particularly to the rear bumper and, if the car was lifted high enough, you could work sitting or standing beneath the car, much more comfortable all round.;)

If you had seen the aftermath of sudden loss of hydraulic pressure on a fork lift truck, you would not even think of going anywhere near underneath one.

Were the forks lifting it under the rear axle? If they were then there's a potential chance the beam could distort and knacker the wheel alignment.

And before you say "it looks sturdy enough"- the (far heavier) Ulysse has a much beefier rear twist-axle with warning labels forbidding using it as a jacking point.

Never used a FLT then chris ;) lifting it up from the side would cause lateral instability in the load/FLT (engine makes the front end heavy so prone to dropping off the forks) also the load center would drastically reduce the FLT's safe lifting capacity if you was able to get your hands on extension forks

FWIW the hand book doesn't make jacking points clear and doesn't show any axle stand positions

well whats done is done her bumpers on no one got hurt (y)

I knew it would turn into this

All I can say is its my car I will do what I want to it when I want to do it.

Out of interest why's it taken a week for you all to come out and slag me off?

I posted this thread for a bit of a laugh but obviously if some of you have had a sense of humour bypass and just want to slag me off then so be it.

You cant post a picture of something dangerous, stupid and most certainly damaging the car and expect people to say. Wow cool.

What are the forks lifting? The spare wheel well? or the subframe crossmember? Fuel tank?

Your panda will be damaged no doubt about that.

could have been worse i suppose

I really didnt feel like majority of people wanted to "slag" you, they genuinely wanted to warn you so your relatively minor problem now wont turn into much more major or even dangerous problem in the future...

Maybe because people have a life outside of the Forum and have only just seen the thread? Most of us posted in the first day or two. :)

It's hardly "slagging you off" to advise against a course of action, it's done in the interest of your safety and anyone else on the forum who would think it's normal to lift a car by this, or any other dubious method. :)

Now put your knickers on and make us a cup of tea.:cry::cry:
