A small bit of advice if you do use countersunk screws - before putting any filler over the head make sure you've first used threadlock to make sure the screw can't come undone (assuming you want to keep the screws in place). If you don't lock the screws in place you'll find little button sized pieces of paint and filler come off as the panel flexes and vibrates and if you spend a lot on a fancy paint job you will be really cursing if that happens!

Nice dallara please post plenty of pics on your progress be interesting to see, i've always wanted to build one my self but unfortunately i dont fit in x1/9's(n)

Where did you get your dallara kit from? Mind me asking roughly how much one costs? Didnt know any one still made them. Are you going to stick with original head lights or fit the smaller square ones?

What's the odd looking yellow car next to your x? looks like a yellow batmobile.

i do have a big problem tho....wat i'm sure jimbro or others can help me with......my back wheels are not in the center of the arch....if i go over a big bump the back of the wheel could hit it......is there anyway of moving back the wheels? i have read about this before on another website but can't remember wat it is called...so you lot are the next best thing lol

Cheers (y)

The problem is the car the bodykit was taken from had the wheelbase extended backward by a couple on inches. This was achieved with custom-made rear suspension arms.

You have three options with the bodykit, move the arches, move the swingarms or accept that the arches are a touch further back than they should be (visually).

Moving the arches is a hideous task and very hard to get right, I certainly do not recommend it.

Changing the swingarms is a lot more feasible but is a specialist fabrication job and won't come cheap - on the upside you also have a chance to work around the rear ball joint problem that most X1/9 owners have.

Just leaving it as is may sound like a cop out but that is what 99% of people do in this situation. It looks a lot less odd once you have got wider wheels on the rear and they fill the arches out.

From a panel beaters point of view cutting the wheel arch does not seem much of a problem but if you are not confident with doing that you can make a right mess of things.Good luck with the rest of the car.

The problem is that the panels are GRP rather than metal, a lot of the strength in the panel would be lost from cutting the arch out and moving it, not to mention disrupting the flow of the lines.

I just left mine as-is (circa 2003) - pending the creation of custom adjustable swing arms for the rear:

and what it (still) looks like now:

Any Advice?

i'll put up some pictures if you don't know what i'm on about......

I was thinking about my paint job on the car.....my old boss told me he would spray it as long as i buy the paint:D

I'm only 17 and knowing me i'll prob end up as a boy racer as i like speed:slayer: but who doesn't

What do you lot think of this paint job?

it sounds very odd to me but this is exactly the sort of thing that led me to have my own custom moulds made.

I will wait until I see the pictures before making any suggestions.

Hey All

Love the car, but just out of interest, how are you going to insure a modified x1/9 when you're only 17? I was stuck with a cinq sporting til i was 20 and had some no claims bonus. Then i got a Lancia Y10 Turbo :D

Driving a Fiat coupe 20v turbo now, but had to wait til i was 25 to afford group 19 ins. Worth the wait though!

but just out of interest, how are you going to insure a modified x1/9 when you're only 17?

I'm my insurance is £700 on my mums and dads insurance.....But if i add the bodykit it goes to £1400

sooo i prob just drive it around saying it isn't modified to the insurance and hope i don't crash...

my dad brought me the bodykit and while we were putting it on the idea of the insurance hit me  so i can't stop now so i just fit it on and hope for the best....

Jimbro i will take some photo's for u next time i am there (y)

Cheers
