General Thinking of getting a Punto Sporting...

Good (y) Remember though dont tell everyone; its a secret lol :D

Forgot to mention one thing- the Sporting comes with the alloys/spoiler sideskirts etc. but the JTD Dynamic doesnt  It would be easy and not too expensive to get it looking sporty to your exact taste ;)
that dont matter, it goes faster than a hgt thats what matters (y)

i dont think it will go faster at the top end speed because of the gearing but it will accelerate say 50-70 mph faster
why not go for a mk1 then?

Cheers guys - lots of very helpful information here!

So it looks like the best options for me are the Sporting, Active Sport or the JTD.
Liking the fuel economy of the JTD, but what about servicing?
Will the JTD cost more on servicing due to more frequent and expensive services?
And does the JTD really perform nice and fast? I want something that will accelerate quick around town, but also be economical. I shall probably be commuting to my new job down the M4 everyday, so economy would be good!

Diesels are the future, Fiats new sporty punto will be running the 1.9JTD engine as it seems the 1.6T was knocked on the head.

Same for the new Zagato Ypsilon.

I dont know about the JTD, but my TDI needs servicing every 10k miles. You would have to find out the intervals and cost for a JTD service and work it out compared to a Sporting/Active Sport.

The JTD wont be a slouch when standard, but the Sporting will be nippier around town. Its when you get onto the motorway you'll notice the huge difference in torque when overtaking at higher speeds and when going up hill. Also not needing to change down gears all the time is nice and makes a difference to fuel economy- my TDI happily pulls away at 20mph in 4th.

Right I've said all I can about them now! So i'll stop :D
