Technical Thermostat

Hello all, I have a sticking thermostat on my Marea JTD 105 1.9 T.D. Tried to get a new one but told only available from main dealer. Also I have to buy the whole unit not just the thermostat. Is this true?
Any point in me trying to clean up the old one ? I`m sure problem is thermostat because it runs hot and radiator remains cold until suddenly it opens and temp. returns to normal.

I had the same problem with my 2.4 JTD. None of the local motor factors had the stat and even the main stealership had to order it with a lead time of 3 weeks. No change out of £65 for a thermostat, criminal.
Sorry I didn't find an alternative.

its true that the stat is not seperate to its housing, so you have to buy the complete unit.
