Some of that looks like surface rust Get a Wire Brush tip for the drill, and clean it up till you get bright metal paint will have to be removed :(

the Bigger holes need to be drilled / Square off and welded up

For the Underside of the car - Use Waxoyl or Bitumin Style of product to stop the rust attacking - after you've cleaned the underside up

And the Internals you can spray up with a near match colour - since its the boot pan it's not seen - so even Spraying the boot Black wont hurt

Take your time and do it properly

Also make sure to disconnect the Engines Ecu and battery and Possibly airbag one before welding

its the rear passenger floor pan! got some sheet metal so cut out the rot and weld in some new metal then coat in bitchumin paint inside and out then wax oil ect on the out side

Its the rear Floor pan! i thought it was the boot

If i were you - i'd get the fuel tank drained and Moved as well
Welding Right next to the fuel tank = BIG trouble.....

Where you can, put the new metal on the outside and jack it (gently) into place then from inside press down with a suitable stick and weld down-hand. You get a much stronger weld. The open overlap can be tacked or just filled with underseal. No need to overlap more than 10 or 15mm. The bodies are only stitched together with spot welds, so no need to do a continuous weld. Common sense will tell you how much. Vertical plates work best with strong magnet welding clamps.

Use REALLY good goggles for grinding. last time I did one of these jobs I had a wide face shield but still got metal in my eye. :( Sparks can go all over the place.

The petrol tank is ok as long as you are never welding onto it. Welding nearby is fine (unless its leaking) !!!

If you ever have to weld a fuel tank either fill it with water or CO2 but if you use gas it needs a good flow.

If the patch is within a 30cm distance to a
load bearing area like a sill, seat belt mountings or brakes
to comply with MOT regs patch repairs should be fully
seam welded.

Only if you are removing and replacing the complete panel
can it be spot welded as the original construction.

If the petrol tank is plastic as most fiats are shield it from
welding spatter too.

Its probably best to plate all the way along so that any rot coming along wont have you doing it again next year. Seam welding is all very well but the only neat way is with gas and you have to be good to avoid warped panels.

Sorry for forgetting to say protect the fuel tank from spatter, but if you are welding inside the car it should be protected anyway by the car's own floor.

Always have a fire extinguisher handy in case you set fire to the underseal. Though it wont help much if the petrol tank catches :eek:
