If you go though a red light with a camera, do you get a ticket in the post and the chance to go to court? Or do you just have to pay the fine?

I've done it btw lol.

what would be your defence?

Was reading a book I got, that states that the Police can direct traffic to ignore road signs etc (guessing red lights come into that?), one of the things that was bugging me was if a police car was on blues, came up behind you at some traffic lights, you drove past, but got a ticket for it. Not sure if it would be a defence though. Can't remember the wording now lol.

you wont get off even the police with lights on can get done for it.

I've been though plenty of red lights on duty...

Re: emergency services running-lights/speeding

I recall the case of an ambulance driver who was on an A1 dash south to deliver a donor organ. Consequently he was up-for prosecution for doing 100+mph - but with the subsequent bad publicity, the CPS prudently dropped-it.

Guns and raises
I noticed a policeman with a speedgun on the A3 in Surrey but thought no more about it until I received a letter saying I was to be prosecuted for doing 25mph which made me laugh because I had been doing about 70mph (the legal limit). I phoned the police, was told it must be a typing error and that the correct paperwork would be sent. They now allege I was travelling at 100mph – garbage. Can they do this? CS, Ewhurst.

Keep all original documentation and take the matter to court. If the police got it wrong in the first place, how can their secondary evidence be trusted? I think they`ll realise they have made fools of themselves and drop it. Engine revs and speed might be stored in your car’s ECU. Check with your main dealer. HJ

I've been though plenty of red lights on duty...guessing you mean if they cause a crash?

Something like a decade has passed since it was argued that only one policeman has ever been convicted of `dangerous driving’ – Pc Lezlie Collins. Presumably they mean whilst `on duty’? Is that still true today?

Pc Collins was deemed responsible for the death of driver Neil Homer & Pc Robert Dallow while in a pursuit operation. Neil Homer was an innocent driver making a turn on `green’ – when hit by driver Collins & passenger Dallow running-a-red in pursuit of another car. In the aftermath police tried to implicate Neil Homer within the pursuit. Neighbours attempting to comfort the fatally injured man were waved away. Police evidence varied. The sirens were `off’ or `on’ – the lights were `red’ or `green.’ Un/fortunately the police radio band was being monitored by two boys - & the truth was disclosed. Interestingly, Joanne Homer (Neil’s twin sister) was a Sc with the local force - & when returning for duty was advised “You’re not one of us any more – you’re not welcome at this station.”

Pc Collins? Three months (served 6 weeks), two year driving ban … & back with WMids Police.

if you are at the front then you pull to the side and forward.
if the camera flashed then it would show you moving to the side
i would be confident to go to court on that.
i wouldnt drive through the junction
