I'm buying a car privately and don't know how best to pay for it, it's a tad more than I want to pay cash with

all i know is don't do it the other way around, never except one as payment, there are loads of fake ones that your bank will clear then a few days later say it was fake, take the money back off you, by that time your car has long gone

for the seller yes, if you are the buyer draft be fine

It's a Cheque that's underwritten by the bank that issues it. As dave says they are quite easy to fake.

Like a Cheque allow plenty of time to clear some say 7days. So the Seller may make you wait until that period has elapsed before letting you collect the car.

Guildford, not going on my own, but been speaking with the seller, its private purchase but I've enough details about him to know I'm not going to be mugged of the cash and car. Even know where he works

Means you don't need to buy any special lube (that's what she said) as it works with water

drove M5 at night during the week, first time in a while, and don't think there were any cats eyes. been like that for a while apparently. My headlights are quite good and even with interior/dashlights off you just can't see the road far enough ahead for my liking at 70mph. mainbeams would solve that, but blinding traffic going the other way isn't a good idea.

With cats eyes you can just sit in the lanes easily, and focus on everything else around, without them i had to keep my eyes fixed quite closely on the white line marking the hard shoulder. I can only hope that they've been removed in anticiapation of roadworks to fill in the massive potholes.

They are brilliant! Brother loves them, only downside is the closest one we know of its 30/40 minutes away.
