The quick question thread

Always wanted a 147, a lot i find second hand seem to have higher mileage than i want though.. so, guess theyre good?

The one im looking at only has 62500 miles on it on an 03 plate so thats not bad at all. Gonna get it HPI checked i think to see how many owners etc and probably go have a look at it

Pretty nice. It's like a classy / posh punto with more luxury. Don't expect it to be overly quick although it will be plenty quick enough although not overly economical :(

Yeah im not expecting like super speed or anything, just something with a bit more poke than my punto. Ive always liked 147's and this one is for a reasonable price too so im gonna give him a ring after/if the HPI check clears and go take a look. Need to find out about any problems they have or anything first so im gonna go trawl through the alfa forums (y)

They are normally pretty solid cars IMO. No major common problems. IIRC they have MAF sensor issues so check on test drive. Also have variators like the HGT Punto engine so listen at cold on start-up. Also have a good listen to the bottom end (although it's the 2.0's that seem to go rather than the 1.6/1.8).

And always check belt change history!

Ah right, well ill get my girlfriends dad to come with me and so he can test drive it for me because i cant (insurance wont let me drive other cars) and hes a trained mechanic so he will probably know about the problems more than likely. Its got a full service history too so hopefully belts will have been changed too and if not ill ask them to do it and then id probably buy it if everything else checks out. Cheers Chris (y)

Why buy a car if you're not going to TD it? It may be fine mechanically but you might not like it, seems a not so good way to buy a car IMO.

I would like to test drive it but the only way i can do that is to get myself insured on it which would cost money to do that just for the test drive then if i dont like it then have to take the insurance off the car unless theres another way to legally drive it?

you get a cooling off period on insurance, so if you take out insurance and dont like it you can get all the money back

Have a look at garages, see if they have a similar one that you can take for a test drive, they should be able to cover you on their insurance.

Cheers dave, never knew that. Im gonna give my insurance a call and ask how much it would be to put that on instead of my punto too just to make sure so ill ask about it then.

Thats a good idea, ill have a hunt round because i wont be able to afford it for a couple of weeks anyway yet so ive got time to find one to test drive to see if i like it or not

if a word is plural and possesive is it spelt like this students'

for example

Being a StAR at the University of Worcester means that I represent the students at meetings throughout the year and make sure that the students’ views and opinions are put across.

the first students is like that becuase its plural but not possesive but the second is students' because its possesive and plural

just possesive would be student's

am i right?
