Artificial snow. Doesn't need to be on the roads. just need a concrete area big enough to do a few maneuvers on.
Perth meet. I got there after everyone else was away into town. 15 minutes after the thunder and lightening snow storm started.

Aaah right.... Thought the Thunder & Lightening started first thing in the morning... take it you were in the 126?!?!?!

Don't be. It's not something special. Correct tyres and pressures, Forward planning of momentum and a little common sense. Driving in snow isn't as hard as it's made to look by some people. :)

and the little helper of the car, although being rwd having the engine weight on the back wheels to aid traction ;)

Yeah kinda like driving a normal car in reverse everywhere? ;) Only with even less weight over the steering wheels? And an ultra short wheelbase so when it spin it spins out faster and there is no weight over the wheels for the corrective steering to grip? But how many people went out in the snow with summer tyres? Which are hugely shite when it gets cold. Also how many people check their pressure when the temp dropped? since air pressure varies massively with temp. :) il say it again after a successful winter last year as a proffesional driver last year in the Marea which is the polar opposite of the 126. a little bit of thought is the greatest weapon a driver has in bad conditions.

If you guys spent as much time thinking about best driving technique and car preperation for the conditions instead of making excuses as to why me and the 126 had no real problems in the snow...... :p

Not just that, light weight car thin tyres is how the 126 went about without much issues :) . The engine at back defo help.

light weight car and thin tyres? the thinner the tyres the more pressure per square inch they exert on the road effectively making the car heavier on the snow. So light car and thin tyres one cancels the other out. ;)

Lets not also forget that the spare wheel and toolkit in the back of most rwd cars probably weight more than the engine in the 126. Nevermind the weight from heavier panels a heavier rear axle and probably a rear screen that weighs more than my gearbox. :)

Wooah chill Stu.
All I was saying is that I'm impressed you got out without any problems.

true, but they also have another 3 quarters of a car thats heavier up front that it trying to push with sillily wide tyres, the 126 is lighter at the front with probably 135? width tyres so its opposite effect.

my car being lowered with wider tyres struggled due to building a mount infront of it as you go along. correct tyre pressures in a i checked before leaving and 8mm on brand new tyres too but there is a point in snow when it doesnt matter how you control your car its beyond its capabilities. the sei was great last year on skinny tyres and standard hight lol.

I'm chilled. :) That wasn't directed at you, it was a general thing for everyone including guests. Everyones making excuses and laying blame and nobody seems to be looking at what they could do better.
Plus that was typed on my phone so I couldn't take the time I usually do.

Get stuck then reverse. Also majority of your weight is over the drive wheels too. per square inch the tyres on the 126 equate to 270 width on a Marea weekend. ;) 8mm on what kind of brand new tyre? The 126 has all season tyres since i need grip 12 months of the year. ;)

Also I didnt fit in the tracks on the road due to a very narrow track. So where as most folk had flat compacted snow I was trying to climb fresh snow on one side and flat compact on the other.

all seasons mate aye, got part way out but just got fed up of having to stop to let andi clear the masive pile of snow infront of the car i gathered up lol, got towed out by a 4x4 and all was well :)

The thing is, the only time I've ever had real bother with snow was my first winter. In a standard mk4 diesel escort. Then I was taught how to drive in the snow the next winter and since then I've never had a problem. In any of my cars, including a track prepped XR2! Actually that's not true I did have bother with the XR2, it had no heater since they weight vital kgs. ;)

You want the weight at the right places, hence the extra weight at the back would help and with the engine being there i can't see it to be a problem unless you don't know how to drive.

Do you think you could of done the same with a R32 Skyline GTS ??? I pretty much doubt you could of got out of your house mate.

The point is, in winter you really need the right car more than anything.

Not being funny but what weight? I can lift a 126 engine and gearbox by myself, you seen me I'm no He-man.
I'm also not doubting some cars are better than others, But to say to you need the right car more than anything is a cop out.
I'll bet you a skyline with the right tyres I'd get where I have to go. I had to park my borther in laws M3 for him since he couldn't get it into his street last week.

It's not driving skill! It seems people think I'm trying to make ot I'm some sort of driving god. I'm not. It's being prepared for the conditions and driving accordingly. I was getting sick of having to move other peoples cars for them last week.

Are you agreeing with me then ? With the 126 being light and most of the weight at the back, it helps. And obv if you had the correct tyres it adds to it.

I would love to see you try to drive a skyline mate. In fact, I don't see many even in the wet nevermind in the snow ...

Ming

Okay lets break it down. Do you want to dig into the snow or sit on top of the snow?
Why do you not see skylines out in the wet?

Also most of the weight isnt at the back in a 126. I'm running out of different ways to explain that.
