General The Jump from Punto JTD to Stilo Abarth ;)

Thanks for your input Bren! Although it does appear you have hijacked my thread a little!

I don't mind, it is nice to get some advice from other Fiat owners on all things Stilo Abarth.

Still quite a wait until June but at least I will be well prepared when I go and haggle with the dealer and know what to ask, check for.

Thanks. Keep the advice coming through, loud and clear!

Sorry Teg, see what you mean about the hijacking bit, looking back  :)

Being a new user, I didn't want to go littering the forum with new threads, so thought I'd just tag onto the end of this one, as it looked like it was drawing to a close ;-)

Hope everything goes well with your jump to Abarth land :D

Cheers

Well the more I plan and build this purchase, the better I think it will be for me! The more feedback from current owners, is also a great help. ;)

Thanks for your input, everything is greatly appreciated. (y)

My clutch control has always been a bit suspect, so glad to get into the Selespeed. :D

Hmmm, do I OR don't I split this thread out :p

Teg, have you actually driven a selespeed yet? It is interesting, yet once hooked it becomes so natural. The only issue is hill starts, lol, they are fun :D

Don't do it Moderator! Just don't do it!

Yes, I've driven the Selespeed. I test drove in October, for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. I kept stopping when I first got into it, and did not want to fiddle with the manual gears, so kept it on Auto, for the first part, then started to use the paddles on my drive back to the dealership. Was really getting into it, particularly when I hit the M4 and was able to experience the full acceleration of the Abarth. This is the most powerful vehicle I have driven to date, and I'm most impressed :D

I live in High Wycombe, plenty of hills to practice on!

Lol, I will think about it ;) [my paypal addy is........]

Ah, nice one - I admit, first time I had the car, Auto all the way - but now, 100% manual; you also find you swap between paddles and gearstick depending on circumstances.

Best thing is when you come to a halt, and car changes down for you. Just make sure if you are about to race off the lights, ensure it either gets into 1st once stationary, or flick it into 1st - ask Froggie about that sometime :D

I have to say I tend to always use the gearshift rather than the paddle for downchanges - I'm not sure why, the paddle just feels wrong! I use both gearshift and paddle to change up though.

I love it when im aproaching a junction and theres a few chavs around, i always use the paddle to shift down to second when im doin about 30 and the note from the exhaust is so sweet... your gonna love it mate.

Only problem is, i like it so much, being a bit of a perfectionist I am not happy untill i have made every bit of the car the way i want it. Its costin me a small fortune.

Everywhere i take the car, like today i went to get some alloys, the guys are just totally shocked at how nice it is.. brilliant feeling. (y)

Too many times, have I thrown loads of money on a car on extra bits and pieces. This time I'm around, I'm going to keep everything factory set. Of course, I'm getting all the options so there is little that needs to be "upgraded".

In terms of pulling of these sweet moves, I wish I was good as you Korang. Unfortunately, whenever I tried to pull off something as smooth as that, it never work out. I just would stall or worse...

Sounds great though, looking forward to the sweet note of the Stilo as I pull off at the lights. (With the lights of the traffic police, not too far behind!)

We will see ;) I got all the options except the Subwoofer and i really regret not getting that now. I thought the only thing i was gonna do was the new exhaust but.....im still going now :( Once i have got my coilovers and rear splitter done then thats it...except maybe the angel tuning remap and some pedals and a CDA and and and....... NOOOOOOOOOO ! :D

You will get used to the car really quickly though mate, i was a bit worried when i first got mine. It was the 1st time in like 18 years that i had driven anything but a manual. But like the dealer said to me, don't think of it as an auto, its a clutchless manual..

Thanks for your thoughts.
I have never driven a car with a powered amp, so was considering adding one of those to my Abarth. Not sure how good the upgraded, "8 speaker hifi system" really is. Then again, I don't want to spends loads of money on only a small increase in quality. Does that make sense?

After reading about the mess you can make upgrading any of the speakers, I thought I would leave well away.

The optional 300W sub on paper sounds like a great idea. I have the 100W sub in my Punto and it does add a little something to the audio.

Test drove the Abarth for the second time today. The drive itself was fantastic and just makes me want the car more.

However, there were a few things I was disappointed in. The dealer did not give me the Sat Nav CD, so just had to stick to the radio :(
I had to put on those trade plates which was annoying! :(

I was hoping to have it for the whole day, but had to stick with just 9am until 12pm, which was able time to drive on a mixture of A-roads, urban and motorway. :)

I saw the limited edition MS Stilo in the showroom. It looks very impressive but I'm glad the GP kit is also available for the Abarth. That will be added to the list!

So, roll on next month...

Regards,

Teg

Sorry to resurrect my old thread but I thought I should let you guys know! Still going for Maruno Blue though :)

Hi Teg

Glad you enjoyed the test drive - did it feel different to the first time round, seeing that you had used the selespeed already?

Also, no problems on keeping this old thread alive.

Hi Stuart! Thanks for your prompt reply. Well last time around, the salesman, Mike took me around the block a few times on an industrial park, behind the dealership to get a feel for it before letting me go off on my own. This morning, I was confident to get in and drive away. It wasn't exactly a smooth drive off, but I just had to switch myself into Selespeed mood again. After all it was October (yes, that long!) since I was inthe Abarth last time!

I love the power and the acceleration and was pulling away from people really quickly on the M4 and M40.

Just need to sell my Punto and get behind the Abarth as soon as I can! :)
