Can anyone tell me how far back the red key and blue key system with fiats goes back. I have it obviously on my 97 Bravo, but a mate of mine is after a Punto and wants to know if all Punto's have this set up as far back as the first 'L' reg ones. If they don't have this set up, what colour keys do you get just so nobody fobs us off with 'Oh, you only got a blue key on this year or model'

History of Red & Blue

From what I can gather if the car is fitted with the Red/Blue key system (never thought i'd see a key worth £1000 - LOL !) then this means it has the Fiat CODE (Series I) system and should have a light marked "CODE" on the dash which illuminates when you turn the ignition on, at least that's what is supposed to happen on Bravo's with the CODE I system...

Personally i'd say best thing to do is have a look in the manual before you buy the car and look for references to the Red Key...

good point well put

Yep, I think look in the Fiat manual is the best thing I can do, you only realise there is reference to the Key's after you have bought the damn thing, and start to read through the owners manual, but seeing as I have seen it in the Bravo manual, there should be some reference to it in the Punto manual!

Regards all,
Jamie

Only blue keys

My 2001 Punto HGT only has 2 blue keys as the reds aren't needed any more. I suspect the MK2 Punto's may be all the same. However I believe that since the HGT Abarth model came out last year they have changed the system again so it uses a 'rolling' code to prevent grabbing.
