Was the bolt on crown wheel part number i posted in the other thread not the same ratio then? Could you not change the crownwheel and the gear on the shaft, and then just use both parts from fiat?

IIRC the ratios were different, and according to my gearbag specialists the 5 speed Crown wheel and gear won't fit.

But I will recheck.

Group buy thread?

Had a look through the group buy thread and can only see part numbers for shims and bearings.

When the bonded diff was first confirmed I went on to EPER with the details of the original Punto and it only offered a complete diff housing with Crown wheel attached.

It is unchecked and may be an entrely different diff, and everything, but it was jsut a punt in the dark maybe worth researching:

Ah, Ok found that one, thanks.

Anyway, the diffs are now at the machine shop so we'll go that route just now.

I have two spare diffs so I could make up a 5 speed later if I want.

Quick update.

1) Have decided not to go with the power column at the mo.

2) Crown wheel still not machined, have been promised for early next week, pig flu is the excuse.

3) Decided to clean and repaint inner wings while car in the air, was going well until I caught the indicator wiring with the wire brush, so tonights job, headlights out to rewire nearside indicator.

4) Still need to finish slot in bulkhead where gear cables go through, although edges now covered, just the middle to fill.

5) Sump Guard now double skinned, welds need a session with the flap wheel.

2) The joys of italian wiring. Got wiring sorted but indicator bulb holder playing up, off tpo recyclers in the morning

3) More sticky goop added to hole, now sealed

4) Sump Guard still needs a session with the flap wheel.

5) New track rod ends to be ordered tomorrow, do I strengthen them?

Ahhh I assume youre talking about 1/4" (6mm) plate at most - that's probably a bit too heavy really, but I like agricultural approaches.

I got the impression you were going to buy new, stronger parts, not fettle the bits you have.

Diff assembly finally delivered to gearbag man this morning, yippee!

He's very busy, won't get done till later next week, boooo!

I have an autotest next Sunday, yippee!

I am in Newton Abbott next week, boooo!

Does the "lumpy thing" work now it's bolted on the car?

Not yet. I literally got it bolted in tonight after work. Still not connected up or filled with oil.

Oh, and the suspension is lying on the floor under the car at the moment.

Charlotte is going to use her old Justy for the event on Saturday.

Next event after that early December, so thats the new target.
