Hi all
Sorry if if been asked loads before but ive done a search and cant find a lot of info.

My fans are not working properly on my 1996 2.5d (non turbo), ive heard them come on sometimes but today the temp was over 90 but neither fan came on.
Whats the best way to test both fans work and the switch on the radiator please
Thanks :)

Take a live feed (Bit wire) from battery to fan and if it spins it works. You problem may be the switch what should be screwed into the radiator somewhere. Take it out and clean it as it could be covered in years of crud. New one should not be expensive. Another option is the Thermostat. If its not opening then you overheat. Find out where it is and take it out and see if your van runs cooler. If so get a new one. Again they are not that expensive.

I had similar problem. The switch screws into the radiator. A connector pushes onto the switch, there are 3 connections. The female pins inside the connector were corroded and only contacted the switch pins sometimes. They looked OK until examined very closely. They had lost the ability to grip. I cut the connector off and soldered the wires onto the switch pins.

Cheers for the replays , i will give them a go at the weekend :)
