Looking at new cars at the minute. I start my new job start of september abroad so I will be spending 9 weeks abroad and 3weeks at home so my driving will be a lot different and I will be able to afford something alot better than a punto (which im getting too old for anyway sorry dave lol).

Looking at either:-

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8/9 MR / EQ 260-300

New Grande Punto Sporting (but it would HAVE to be a 5door)

New Bravo 150 Sport

2000-2003 BMW 5Series 330d M Sport

Does anyone know anything about these cars (except for the fiats :nerner:). Or does anyone have any other suggestions?. It needs to be 5 doors and rather roomy as im sick of stuffing everything I need for my daughter etc into a punto  :bang: .

Given the short service intervals on an Evo I'd be swaying away from that one - good car but IIRC it's every 6-7k miles so not a good choice for a daily runner. Beemers are reliable, clever, comfortable and spacious and so terribly, terribly boring. FIAT ftw, you know it makes sense :D

If you stick with Fiat, then it has to be a Bravo Sport. Theres just nothing on the roads quite as nice as a bravo sport in maserati blue

Evo and BMW in a different class to all the rest... Then you narrow down on Power, or Comfort.

If Comfort is more important, then the 335D M Sport I reckon ;) Out right Power would be the Evo, but over long journeys they are back busting!

Good to see your finally seeing sense Chris..took me a tad longer than you but all this modding cars is tosh and a loss leader big time when resale comes around..there is no substitute for comfort and a big engine under the bonnet..(y)

well if you are not doing big mileage in the days you are home you could pick up a higher than average mileage car (as you could bring to down to average over a couple of years) or go for a silly car that you normally wouldn't consider.

If you do this it really does open up your options even more so it then becomes more of how much am i prepared to spend and for the money you are looking at (guaging on the cars you list) there is some very nice stuff out there indeed!

if i was buying a bravo it would have to be the diesel, its the best choice. you dont want a 1.4 engine with a small turbo bolted on in a car that size. the diesel is only 0.5 secs slower 0-60 so i bet a remap would make it just as fast, but cheaper to run and easier to drive and much more practicle for road use.

on the fiat website the bravo is by far the best looking car in the line up they show! it just needs bigger arches a 2.0 turbo (at least) engine. in the current line up the diesel is probably the best option though.

I'd agree with that. Perhaps if they were to bring out a Abarth Bravo :slayer:.

Due to me being away a lot of the time I can afford to get something stupidly powerful and expensive to run.
