Technical help needed!

Right I've had the car two weeks and things are going wrong! Locked the car last night using the remote button. Tried opening it this morning with the button, nothing happened! Had to open the car with the key and shut the alarm up! Turned the alarm back on when I got in from work and the remote was working fine. Just tried unlocking the car and once again nothing happens! HELP!!! Is it just a matter of replacing the remote battery? (the red light still flashes) or something more serious?!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a different alarm fitted to my HLX, and the original has been disabled, but that's exactly what happened to mine before I got a new battery for the fob. Was convinced it was a fault on the alarm itself as the light would still come on. Chances are that all you need do is replace the batery.

Re: Re: Technical help needed!

I would just upgrade the alarm. You have a CAT 2 immobiliser (chip in the car key).

You can upgrade to a CAT 2:1 by adding an alarm with 3point immobiliser and self powered siren.

Toad and Clifford do this. Please avoid GAP security!

Unless we both have an identical fault on the key system of our cars I think what you are describing is correct. I have a '99 T 100 HLX. The remote button has always locked the doors and activated the alarm, but only ever disabled the alarm - meaning that to enter the car you have to use the key.
It pissed me off for a while until i realised how easy it was to press the button twice w/o realising and walk away.

don't knock it....line your pocket!

Re: Re: Technical help needed!

Marko, are you saying this cured the problem?
On my brava the remote locks every time, but sometimes it does'nt open the doors. It always happens on cold mornings, so winter is a nightmare when the locks are frozen!

Re: Re: Re: Technical help needed!

Craig,

I'm saying that as far as i'm aware (noone else has mentioned any different) the car doesn't unlock by use of the remote, only disable the alarm.
Walking away: close door, press remote, doors lock and alarm armed.
Walking back: press remote button, alarm disarms, use key to unlock door.
This has always been the case with my Bravo. Yes I had some trouble with frozen locks on chilly mornings but nothing a squirt of de-icer can't fix if you get up early enough and keep the can indoors rather than in the car. I'm sure if you mention it to FIAT they can tell you if the car should unlock using the remote too. Probably all done when the dealer takes delivery of the car and does the 'setup'.
I think some bods have changed the door handles of the Bravo/a to the Marea rear handles which have no lock on them - thus they must have found a way to unlock with the remote, but i'm not sure if they are FIAT standard remotes/CL components or uprated aftermarket versions.

Marko
