punto evo, 1.2, 8 valve 2011, the one with led tail lights, 12v 21w bulb ind and stop lamps.

the centre extra stop light, in the hatch upper area, is that led on bulbs please ?

the drivers side tail light unit, its wires come from the front of the car please ?

we know of the earth point on the left lower corner which has been cleaned over the week end.

we could do with exact wiring info regarding the tail lights led wiring please, where do wires come from and internal wiring of the led's.

the lad says all lights all ok at present this morning, but, the car has been experiencing intermitant loss of tail lights, and malfunction of r/h/s tails lights, which give me the impression of a bad earth.........

we can solder extra earth flying leads, to car body, on the bulb unit tracks, but could do with exact wiring, and exact wiring of led's please.......

been on e learn but no exact punto info.....which is annoying. grande punto info better than nothing I suppose but exact info would be good. Haynes manual is some help but again need exact punto evo info/wiring diagrams......

any common faults about the light units with water ingress ?

we know about the bulb holder unit "seal" and the lamp unit square "seal". The left side lamp unit square seal has an immpression of the ribbed wiring protector, since leaving the factory we recon. slight corrosion seen on body close to the earth point due to a water leak. Not much of a leak, but a dribble of water none the less, causing corrosion.

all help greatly appreciated.

thanks

Evo/2012 diagrams are not for free. But Grande ones (especially marked "after 10/2008", "Start-Stop", "Euro5") should be very similar to Evo.

You can still figure out basic functions, component locations etc.
Learn how to use it ("eLearn"). Not exactly user friendly. It is divided into "functions". So there is no such thing as "full diagram of the doors" for example (there are separate diagrams for: door central locking, mirrors, windows, radio/speakers etc.).
Power/grounds, external lights, "signaling devices" (blinkers), boot opening, rear wiper and so on - are separate. Not a big deal if you get familiar.

Thanks GP.

Can only access e learn in public library but gettIng to know the workings of it slowly...bit by bit.

On e learn in public library again today....

E learn is clunky and none user friendly, but I am getting better at using it and printing stuff out.

Next visit, hill assist system.....

Thanks again GP.

Ok, update on tail light issue.

L/h/s earth point cleaned ok, no further problem as yet with left tail light.

R/h/side rail light, grrrrrrr, very intermitant problem which to me suggests loss of earth.

Soldered dedicated earth wire ( with male/female bullet connection for ease of light unit removal ) to bulb holder earth circuit, other end of this "extra earth wire" which is convenient to disconnect for tail light unit removal, has eyelet connection using nut, bolt and washers earth point via an existing hole cleaned of paint.

Intermitant problems can be the devil to find.

The lamp was checked etc. About ten days ago and has worked perfectly.

Yesterday, it failed again suggesting bad earth. The lad removed the two lamp unit testing screws, moving the lamp unit ecerso slightly, and gay pressto the light works perfectly again, untill it stops working properly, grrrrrrrrr.

Anyways, checking earth today for this lamp, resistance checks suggested a possible "make and break" contact within the lamp unit, the bulb holder bit.....

Resistance change between multi wire car plug earth "pin", and the earth track further into the light bulb holder unit.

I suspect a make/break contact of the earth strip, where the strip is held in place by the "plastic rivet" in the bulb holder unit...???!!!

Anyways lights working properly at present in full working load ( sides, indicators and brake lights all on at the he same time ) at present.

Time will tell....

I have the car tommorrow to check further earth points, and to see if a "collision switch" is fitted under trim by left front door area, at bottom of A post....

May have time to check earth points under handbrake centre trim area as well.

Car needed for the lads commute to work During week......

Further up date...

Left front A pillar area under the bonnet release lever trim, both earth points absolutely fine, no collision switch found and carpet underlay dry.

Tail lights still working aok.

Fingers crossed tail light issue fixed and hill assist/esp occasional illumination of warning light cured.

Time will tell...

Mechanical collision (inertia) switch, fuel (pump) cutoff, was installed only in early Grandes (and in older generations, Punto2, P1).
From "10/2008" it's a software option triggered by AirBag module + managed by Body Computer.
You do reset by "indicators Left/Right method" (see User's Manual) or via OBD, Fiat group software (FES, MES, AlfaOBD).

Thanks GP.

What MES kit do I need for this Punto ?

I presume I need a laptop ?

The basic hand held machine mart diagnostics is a Clarke.CEOBDPRO. 16S

I also have an Aldi autoXS obdll, which does not work with ABS or SRS...

I suppose I should do more research on the Clarke handheld, which I will start Monday on the public library internet.....

Classic setup: Laptop + "ELM327" (+adapter Yellow to access some other modules than ECU, but some interfaces have a switch), check eBay.

Why switching? Because of the network layout, topology. There are two CAN networks in the car. One is faster and handles more important data (ECU, Body, Steering, ABS). Second network is slower and less critical (radio, A/C, etc.).
In case of cheap hobby level interface (like ELM327, cost about 30 quid), You must switch between them networks mechanically (switch or adapter).
