Hi everyone and a happy new year!, Due to a change in my financial situation (i.e skint!) I'm thinking of chopping in my 52 plate 3 door silver Abarth and buying a 1.9 JTD 115 3 door, I do about 300 miles a week and my trip says 25/26mpg on average (town and motorway), So in the real world what does the diesel do? and is there anything i should look for when buying one?. Do they come with any kind of body kit/alloys etc?. Also are they realy a group 5 insurance? my Abarth is group 14 so hopefully my premium should come down a bit!.

Many thanks Geoff.

right,
my JTD does on average bout 48mpg round town driving (its been remapped though - but did the same consumption before pretty much!), mine has alloys and a rear spoiler - but no side skirts :( (yet lol), and yes they are group 5 which is nice! feel free to ask any more questions!

Right

I have has my jtd for over a month now and filled it up three times. On average at the moment I get 42-43 mpg, but I assume if your doing 300miles a week this will easily go up. Only do short distance trips to work.

Stan.

Thanks a lot for your info, So it looks like i should get approx twice what i'm getting now! sounds good, How's the ride in a JTD? my Abarth's a bit on the harsh side over pot holes/ridges etc.

Well best bit is, take your cars combined economy and work out the difference between that and your 25/26mpg, that will let you know how in-economically your driving. You won't just change your driving style in a JTD. If you spank your Abarth, your more than likely to spank a JTD. Then take that variance in economy and compare it to what folk on here are saying.

As for 42 or 43mpg in a JTD on average, sounds poor to me, i get that in the 1.2.

Do you think so Stiloboy.

I have only filed it up three times so far and do an under 20 miles a day traveling to and from work. Do you think this will improve with time or do you think there maybe a problem??

I personally think it's because i'm either in traffic or because the engine is cold especially in the morning. Where as when I drive on the motorway it does improve but I haven't done a huge amount of milage yet.

Stan..

That might explain it, i assume you'll be doing regular long trips in the future, i'd have though it a false economy buying a diesel for a 20 mile commute. Unless your a pikey and you take your caravan to work every day..... hmm, failed logic there, sorry, pikey's don't work! :)

That all said, i get my good economy because when i take it to work i do 25 miles each way, at motorway speed for the vast majority of the journey. Recently i've been only covering a couple of miles and taking a work van to the office, and my economy has tailed off a bit. In fact last time i looked it was only at 39.2mpg! I nearly cried! :p Still thats 250 miles, and there is half a tank left, so it can still go up. :D

One reason we bought a 2.2JTD and not a 2.0petrol 'Ulysse' was mainly down to its driving characteristics. The car is also used primarily for a school run into the local village, although used by all of us at the weekend.

The slightly better ecomony helped, but the car cost more to begin with. However, the JTD has been remapped, makes it even better all round.

I think it all depends what you want out of a car.

Exactly my reason to purchase a jtd in the first place to get it remapped and of course great performance and low group insurance. Just perfect for me!

In the future I will be doing more millage but for now I will have to make do!

Stan..

To be honest, I never even knew the JTD could be remapped - I only came onto this forum in Sep '03 to try and connect the CONNECT+ system in the Ulysse, and was approached then.

BUT then time came to get rid of my Mondeo - the Stilo Abarth seemed ideal, especially if you are a gadget freak like me. Plus I wanted to stick to petrol for my car, simple as that :)
