Hi, I'm not quite sure if sunroof problems should go under interior or exterior, but anyway...

I've got a 1.6 Mk1 Sporting with electric sunroof. Unfortunately one of the teeny tiny pegs that hold the sunroof glass to the runners that support it has snapped. This means two things:

1. When I open the sunroof it pulls on one side only, then drags the other side along with it, making a nasty noise, and no doubt slowly killing the motor.

2. When closing (or attmepting to) the broken peg does not pull one side down flush, therefore not creating a seal. This is not fun when the rain begins!

How easy it it to remove the glass and add a new set of runners/guides? I'd like to get this fixed, but I'm wary of taking the car into a garage where they'll likely charge me for a whole new sunroof unit. Or is that all I could buy anyway??

Cheers,

Chris

I doubt you'll be able to get spare parts for it, just a WHOLE sunroof, which will be something daft, maybe between £350-700:eek:

best bet is shore it up in a garage, dismantle it (you'll have to take all the door pillar plastics out, then the roof fittings, then CAREFULLY peel the roof liner down, watch out, its very dusty (will get in your eyes) and VERY fragile.

I would find a breakers yard and get a sunroof from a mk1 (any ELX/sporting/.GT will have a roof, some manual some electric) then rape that for parts, or fit the whole thing to your car, then you've at least got a spare motor, spare glass, spare interior panel etc/

maybe £50 from a breakers (no gurentee it works either though)
