Bravo 1.2 16v W reg engine version 182b000 (first one)

Idle bounces 800-1100
Start up needs throttle gunning to catch (battery is juicy) but sounds like VW combi for a minute
Runs smoothish over 2500rpm but weak in third up a v shallow hill
some judder in 3 and 4 gear when low throttle, cruise at 40-50mph
idle adjustor broken
'pof pof' exhaust but clean

So I thought id get hands dirty.:p

Well the plugs the plugs!!! Not too coked, but 2 closest to coil oil damp on the thread hmmm :(What does anyone recomend Bosch YR7DC+?

The HTs look like original 'CAVIS'. Ones a bit cracked on the coil. Followd Sultans recommendations of swapping them around a bit but will replace the lot and possible the coil.

sump oil damp must be weepeing somewhere;)

Tightened all vacuum points, checked visible earth points seem ok
battery unipart

Done this level of looking before consdiering throttle clean up and look at idle

raising the idle stepper motor control on 1mm washers releaves presure on it's internals alowing it to work again try that under all 3 bolts carefull you dont drop parts it's a bit fidly but has worked many times for me

once you have the ignition sorted you should stop the pof pof fuel in the exhaust otherwise look at posible headgasket/fueling ie lambda probe problems ontop but sort the ignition first

ngk plug's are best buy far just use the standard recomended in the handbook ek's/motorpart should be able to tell you otherwise fiat will also tell you the code

and yea the weathers lovely here today aswell i polished the inlet manifold on my 1.8:slayer:

Sultan, cheers for the advice. My Haynes manual came today. Imnot a meccho like you but when Im given direction I am careful and methodcal.

Turns out my Bravo is the later of the split in June 2000 (what did they do there???) and the NGK plug is later one. Waiting on nice clean new HTs and have spotted aftermarket new coil for £28.

I'll give this a go with the stepper. The throttle cable adjuster is broken and i shored it up with wire to hold it in place. Would like to get a new one but nowhere is there one!! :hm:

But I had to overadjust it to get the idle back up to 800ish. It waqs at 600 and shaking the engine a lot

Lol my manifold looks like an iron age discovery...well corroded. Them screws look well cooked in eeek.

Pray for more sunnnnshine (y)

Cheers Vince

the ecu will get confused if you use the mechanical throttle to set your own idle

the split was just implimenting new euro emitions regulations so a few minor engine mods plugs injection system lambda probes diferent manifold things like that i believe they went from euro 2 to euro3 compliant

also it's a fantastic car to learn mechanics on i'm sure you'll have fun(y)

when i finally got mine sorted it flew:p really is a nice engine
