Hi

My Marea has not had a new oil sump plug since I got it and having changed the oil several times I've noticed the head on the plug is getting worn - but my motor factors don't sell them (and they sell almost everything else!)

Anyone know if you can get them? Most Scrap yards don't have them as they are removed when they drain the fluids - but never bother to put them back.

Many Thanks.

The Tempra had a pressed steel sump and no washer, very convenient. I'm pretty sure the cast aly sump Marea does have a copper washer, but it's too wet to go and check.

always been copper washers for me, but you usually get nylon with replacements.

you can reuse the copper washer if you hold it in a flame until it glows red and then dip it in cold water. this will anneal it, good as new.

The idea is to rapidly quench it so just drop into a cup of cold water and leave until it's cold. A butane torch would be fine for heating it up. Whatever you do dont use a ceramic hob, it took me a long time to polish the mark off of our halogen Smeg built in hob, Mrs R was out when I discovered the butane had run out but I cetainly knew when she arrived home! The washer worked fine.
