Hi guys,

Was driving on the motorway this weekend and I hit a part (something like this) left over from an accident.

Couldn't avoid it due to a busy motorway so i drove over it and it ripped appart the small heat shield plate from the sump guard, exposing the DPF filter.

I know that the DPF can get quite hot sometimes. Is it necessary to replace it? Is it worth getting a steel sump guard?

The car is a 2010 2 liter Bravo Sport

Thanks,

Andrei

I cant see what you are referring to, but would say be careful if parking on dry grass etc as contact with hot parts could cause a fire. Personally I would replace the guard as it was put there for a reason. If it wasnt necessary they would surely have saved the cost of supplying it. Reminds me I have something similar rattling around on the front of our Micra that needs a spot of welding.

I do recommend you get the metal sump guard.

I have one for 3-4 years.. and it probably saved my sump a few times, from blocks of ice on the road, and from a really bad road once... they are really worth it even only for peace of mind.
