Found this thread after posting earlier about my 500l bringing up the start stop disabled check engine message...

However when I got this car a month ago, it brought on a warning triangle after I put diesel in (30mins after purchase) I've returned it twice and its been scanned and.no faults.
Reading about the fuel issue above with the filter.. could this be what's turned the first light on and lead to the alert today?

good morning

We bought a FIAT FIORINO VAN in April. Until today we have been to the FIAT workshop 6 times. Today it gave a START STOP UNVAILABLE problem again and we have to go again for DPF cleaning. The car is new and FIAT does not recognize that it has a problem, and does nothing to fix the specific malfunction

Hi.
I've got another thread somewhere with my trials with this issue.
Hopefully it's sorted now.. have a look out for it in case it's useful

Same happened to me. This after timing belt change after 4year on my 500 rockstar 2020.
Mechanic ended up changing VVT solenoid. Car have been OK since. Before limp mode and engine light with misfiring and random errors. I hope this helps.

Hi,

I am driving a Fiat 500 (Lounge 2016 edition). This morning, after a drive of +/- 10 minutes, there suddenly appeared two warning signals at the same time, mentioning “Start Stop is unavailable” & “Check Engine”.

Hi I googled the exact same issue this morning. I was 3 hours into a 9 hour drive from paris to Barcelona and the Stop start light & engine warning light came on. I pulled into the gas station & went into the gas station shop. I bought a fuel additive that cleans the fuel tank. I had a full tank which is not ideal so I just added half the bottle to the tank. I turned on the car and reved it a few times in neutral. Drove it ten minutes and the warning lights went off. Running perfectly now.
I stopped the car and did some general checks and everything seemed ok.
- the engine oil temperature was ok
- the engine oil level was ok
- the car was not leaking
- there were no visible battery issues
- the cap for the fuel reservoir was correctly put on the reservoir
- the fuel consumption was not different from the days before
- i also refueled the car (with the correct fuel)

The error, however, is shown every time i start the car. The car drives perfectly and there are no clear differences from the driving conditions before.

Is this a common or known defect for the Fiat 500? If so, is there a method to resolve these warning signals or do I need to go to a garage for a more thorough check?

Only a garage can reset service interval.

Actually, anyone with MES should be able to do this, but a service probably ain't a bad idea. I know the 1.6 Doblo I used to have (R.I.P. - sniff) needed MES to tell it when the oil had been changed. There's a posibility that the 2 faults aren't related but on that engine there's a good chance gremlins are at work (back to the Doblo, I had all sorts of spurious errors on her. Mind, the Blue & Me module was fried which might have been an indicator of the general state of the electrics - just about got her settled down when I lost her).
Start/Stop not available is often related to the state of the battery (ie low charge), the Doblo and my current 500L are (were) both a bit fickle about going into Start/Stop - I seem to remember there's a section in the handbook that says when it will or won't engage Start/Stop.
