Hi. Just had the car a few weeks. Been on short runs and on one 100 mile run, and no issues. Today in the heat of the day took for short run and message came up “Start Stop is unavailable” & “Check Engine”. Re started it a few mins later and ok- what should I do? thank you

I had this a few times on my 1.6 Doblo (I think they're very similar underneath, which is why I just bought a 500L after losing my Doblo), it's the gremlins I'm afraid, I never did get to the bottom of it, just keep your battery well charged (plenty of nice long runs with little or no power going out) and she'll be fine.

I remember the first time mine dropped into Start/Stop I nearly panicked (What the hell is happening??? - never had this on a car before, the engine suddenly stoping for no reason!!!!!!!) - then I saw the Start/Stop symbol on the dash and things started to make sense (I'd had it for about a month by this time and it'd never made any attempt to go to Start/Stop before then, just the occasional 'unavailable' message).

Might be worth having someone check it over with MES if there's anyone close to you with it, else it's not a bad investment to have if you can get the cost past the Mrs. (saved me multiple times it's cost in the couple of years I've had it, one Proxy Alignment at the garage more than pays for it).

Just wanted to add to this thread. I have a 2015 (65 plate) Fiat 500L MPW 1.6 Diesel. Check Engine Light, came on as did the S/S not available message. Battery was replaced about 3 years ago when original failed (S/S batteries aren't cheap!!).

I drove sensibly for a couple of days and then yesterday booted it up the motorway at decent revs. Got in it this morning and all cleared. Weird but I've heard of other drivers doing a 'regen' every so often - especially if they commute for long periods at speeds of 20 mph or less.
