stupid question????

Hiya alll, have a MK1 punto and replaced the HU ages ago, but it's loose, someone has told mei need to put the black cover thing back on or it'l get nicked but the manual says it won't work withouth this.

Anyone know which of us are right??? and how do i make it secure as it's jumping abit being so loose. this is the HU BTW.

sounds like the cage(the bit you put in the hole before the HU)needs to be adjusted and some of the little 'wings' bent in. dont know about the 'black thing' though.do you mean the frame?

must be the frame. i just called it a thing as i have not got a clue what it is.

see this pic, the frame is in the top right corner but the manual told me to take it off.

top right is the cage.this locks the HU in place. you need that in the hole in the dash.

put it in the hole and then bend the trianguler shaped bits of metal behind the edge of the HU hole to lock the cage in place. once the cage is secure pass the wiring through and connect up the HU.
after that slide the HU in until it locks in place

no worries,use a small screwdriver or the likes to bend the lugs on the cage.be careful not to slip and scratch yourself or more importantly the dash(you will heal )

Also, the cables can be seen at the back, is there any covers that can be brought, if not i will ask my DT tech see if he has an idea.

Use some of the cable tidy tubing and cable ties
