The one thing I wanted to get done this year was to at least have the car in primer. I've managed it but only just with 4 days of the year left

I even managed to go over the car and rub out any flaws that showed up after priming. Amazing how much you can do when you get the time.

I'm hoping if all goes to plan on Saturday to get the primer flattened back and that's it ready for painting at the start of the new year. I'm getting excited about it again now, its been a long time coming.

Wow indeed! Can you start working on mine next?!

I'm hoping if all goes to plan to get the shell painted on Saturday.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait a while but I'll add you to the list. Currently the MK1
then Evo 2 integrale,
Ferrari 308 GTS,
Fiat 126 (Aircooled),
Merc G Wagen,

Fiat X19
Dalek
Tardis

Well I said I'd get the shell painted this weekend and I did. And a major bonus on Thursday was that my motor factors found me a litre of the proper bumper paint that's colour matches the sides and bumpers of the MK1 panda :slayer: I'm not going to be spraying it on until I have the shell flattened back and polished up.

Looks fabulous! As its a very early Panda would it have been built at the Desio plant or elsewhere.

I've absolutely no idea

Nice. Stuart do you paint it all in situe in your garage I assume? What equipment do you use

It was painted were you see it sitting. Garage looks dirty but its cleaned of as much dust as I can get rid of before I even open the 5 litre bucket of paint. And everything in the garage is covered, 2pak sticks to everything it touches :yuck:
I use a decent compressor that runs 80psi as the gun is an 80psi gun. I also use 2 sets of halagen lights on high stands as they let you see every imperfection and give off some heat. Plus with it being a wooden garage it retains the heat heping the paint to dry.

With this car I'm not going for a concours finish, there are a few bits that are not perfect I can see so I'm not worrying to much if I get a few bits of dust in the paint, plus because 2pak comes out very bright/shiney which is to bright for the like of the MK1, I hand wet&dry the entire car with 1200 paper then 1500 before buffing the paint back up using a proffessional buff and Fracela G3 paste. It takes quite a while but it takes the edge off the shine nicely to give an almost original patina to the paint and generally takes out most paint imperfections.
It does away with your fingernails for a while to.

Got into the garage early tonight and got the sides painted with the grey. Looking at the MK Panda Brochure I have its as close as its going to get to the original finish. I'm very pleased with the result.
