Technical stop start fault

This fixed mine. Finally found the issue with this. My 2010 Doblo was coming up with the advisory light saying stop start unavailable. I did all the advised checks lights battery charge earth leads nothing sorted it. Put a scanner on it and it came up with and intermittent error with the brake light switch (error light not activated). Ordered a new switch £8.80 including delivery. Fitted in 2 minutes ( basically go to the brake pedal unclip the 4 wire block, rotate the switch and remove, do the opposite to fit the new one). Turned the engine over (fingers crossed) and no lights no start stop error messages, sorted.

as an update since i last posted it has only done it a couple of times..i suspect the clutch switch has a fault as when it plays up when stopped in stop start mode it will suddenly start itself without any pedals pressed...i will admit my days of groveling on the drive in the cold and wet are gone so i was waiting for the warmer days as it seemed to have cured itself but then hiccuped but then fine again....i was looking at scanners and wondered if anyone had used the fiat ecuscan..like everyone else ive got the free obd reader you get with a box of cornflakes

I use Multi ECU Scan (MES). It runs on windows computers which mean I have to borrow my wife’s laptop. Mine is a MacBook.

Most of the time the free version is enough. But a 12 month licence is €50.

You will need a connection kit. I have one like this eBay number 123722459562

The car *will* restart with no pedals pressed… if the voltage sensor on the battery feels it needs to. As the battery deteriorates, the length of time the engine will stay ‘stopped’ gets shorter, until eventually not stop-starting at all. This is a built-in precaution to ensure there’s always enough ‘oomph’ to restart reliably. Also, if you are in town and make several stops in succession, often the system will stop stop-starting until you drive a bit more to get the voltage back up. If yours is restarting ‘early’ that’s a good sign that the battery is on its way out. (Note a stop-start battery rarely responds well to an external charger, and if it’s more than five years old then it’s done well. You don’t get a warning about this — until the battery has really had it.)

Not sure - but you can turn it off by simply using the button on the dash

As to MES, it's a one-off payment for the Windows version. But it is a £50 a year fee for the version that runs (quite well) on the iPhone.
