Technical stop start unavailable

Stop start unavailable P018D This code keeps coming up intermittently on my 2014 multimeter Panda 4x4 Has an 027 AGM battery fitted and at rest is showing 12.86 volts. Is the problem likely to be either the clutch or gear position switch ?

P018d is a fuel system fault isn’t it? Irrespective of the voltage, these Pandas seem very sensitive to battery condition and stop start unavailable is often an early indication of that, along with an ever-increasing number of (often spurious) fault codes.

How old is the battery, and what voltage does it read whilst charging?

Two comments:
First, the 1.3MJ should have an EFB battery, not AGM. The charging system isn't right for AGM (I believe).
And second, if the battery is more than four years old, especially of the car only sees low use, then this is almost certainly owing to the battery being in poor health. This leads to a series of errors over time, stop-start unavailable is often the first, and then, 4x4 available, hill hold errors and ESC related errors. Low voltage during start up also tends to trigger all sorts of 'spurious' fault codes - often completely wrong, and simply caused by the sensor not seeing the correct voltages. What is the battery voltage when measured after say 12 hours of sitting? Multiple previous posts along these lines, and eventually they are resolved by the battery being changed..

Thanks for your reply. Have just checked the voltage after 48hrs and showing 12.74.. Looks like a new battery is required.

Actually if it’s still 12.7 after 48hours, that’s not too bad.
But s-s batteries behave in odd ways and that voltage may drop rapidly when trying to start.
More importantly, how old is the battery, and what sort of weekly mileage does the car do? And, round town or longer runs? Regular (150 miles) a week, with a good 20 minute run on faster road, expect four or five years. Round town or short runs, expect less.

It went from Devon to Oxford and it started happening at around Swindon. Has kept doing it ever since then. Have given the battery a full charge and happened again within three miles. As for the battery age, I don't know, as I haven't had it very long. Weekly milage varies. Some weeks it can do fifty miles. others, it can do a few hundred. Is there any way of disabling all of the pointless crap that this car has ?

You can turn off stop-start, yes. The righthand most button to the right of the hazard light switch, marked with a S with two arrows round it. The yellow light in the switch comes on to show the function has been turned off.

Compared to a new car, the Panda has very little ‘pointless crap’ which is why I keep mine Our other car has lane departure warning, speed sign recognition, collision avoidance automatic braking and more, all of which are a real nuisance!

Thanks for being so helpful. Will try a battery and go from there. Can't wait to get the work done on my 169. Doesn't even have a seatbelt warning!

Have replaced the battery and it seems to have solved the issue.
