I was unfortunate to have some miscreant (to be polite) steal my number plates this evening .I bought the car this year and the dealer fixed the number plates with sticky double sided tape.Plates attached by this method seem all too easy to rip off.Can anyone give me some advice on making my replacements more secure as i am not sure if the front bumper can be drilled.I see that there are four fixing holes in the back door for i would asume, self tapping screws

Have you reported this to the Police? It might be some idiot just being an ar*e but it could be someone wanting a set of false plates.

I had to spend nearly 2 hours at the police station to report it.Probably going to be used for a petrol station drive off,so i had no choice

for my number plates on my cars, i use like 2 sticky strips and a few blobs of stikaflex/tiger seal or similar and they wont come off again! they usually snap when you take them off so make sure they are straight :D

and i would advise against screws, people stealing plates usually prefer nicking ones which are screwed on, 2 screws to undo is easier and having to pull them off if they have been stuck on with the tape for a long time.

as well as drilling screw holes usually makes the plate get water in after time.

The very same thing happened to my Panda 100HP about one month ago. Went out to the car in the morning to find the plates gone. None of the neighbours cars had been touched though. I reported it to the police who seemed to take this quite seriously. They issued a case number that can be used if we encounter any issues.

The replacement plates are stuck on but I am going to screw on the front one as it seems to be unsticking due to the curve of the front bumper.

I am not sure that screws would stop the plates from being stolen in the first place as all the thief would need is a screwdriver after all.

Interesting that this is happening to Pandas.

There's a company making plates that are impossible to remove in a useable state.

Interesting that a couple of the quoted statements on their site claim that folk were done for illegal parking. You think the ticket issuer would automatically check the tax disc matched the index numbers....Worrying that Pandas are being cloned. Is it because their owners are all so frugal, even the crims? ;)
