I want to replace the speakers in my brand new Stilo. I only mention the fact it is brand new, as I don't want to damage any fittings or void any warrantees.

I tried to remove the grills from the doors (it's a 3-dr btw) and the rear, but they aren't on 'pop in/out' fittings. They look like it; but, the little legs just snap. [:0] ;)

Furthermore, whilst I had enough space to look behind the front grill, I couldn't actually see any screws. So it looks like I may have to remove the interior to gain access to speakers fixing points.

Obviously this is something I don't want to just dive into. So has anyone done this? Or got any links to people that have? E.g. another ICE forum?

It looks like the only way I am going to accomplish a speaker change is to remove the interior trims.

The front may be complicated by the electric window wiring, the back may be complicated by the seatbelt mounts. :(

I am still a little apprehensive, as past experience of pop fittings is that they have a tendancy to snap. And door seals never fit properly again after they've been removed.

you could take it to halfords or some such place and get them to do it all for you.....

My local ICE guy suggested I take the doors off, then go and see him to sound-test some speakers. So I think he is reluctant to do it himself, or I just gave him the impression I'm a DIYer.

Do not ever take your car to Halfords!!!
Shame on Donz for even suggesting the idea

If your competent enough to do any wiring changes yourself then go the DIY route. That way if you ever want to change the speakers or if you have any problems with the speakers and you need to get back into the door to take a look at them you know what your doing and don't have to rely on when your car audio shop is open.

Right, I should be tiling my kitchen ready for when we have guests next week, but I am going to take my car apart instead. [}:)] Let's hope I don't snap too many bits. [:0] Wish me luck. :I

So far so good. The door isn't off yet, but I have removed all the screws/hex nuts and I'm popping the clips atm.

Just popped back to pass on a bit of info though. The reflectors in the door have wires going to them, which I thought was a bit strange, as they don't illuminate. So I popped the reflector out and there is space for a bulb! [:0] Cheeky feckers! [:(!]

Update.

It isn't quite as simple as fitting a bulb. The terminals seem to be missing from inside the holder. The wires are there, the connector clips into the holder, the bulb fits into the holder, but there are no terminals in the holder to bridge the connection betweem bulb and wired clip. [:(!]

I think I need a picture to explain...

As far as the speakers are concerned. I have created enough space to remove the drivers door speaker. I haven't removed the entire inner door, as the linkage for the door lock and electrics seems to be in the way and I don't want to risk any damage.

you might be able to purchase the full lamp holders from the doors as parts from your dealer and fit them yourself....

My thoughts exactly. :)

s**t! Just noticed the time of my posts. It's taken me 5 hrs to do one side. [:0]

I have just put the driver's door back on. The tweeter and mid-range speakers are in place, but it is going to be a little tricky to find a home for the cross-over (it's a bit large).

Think it is ok to turn it all on, what with there being different speakers either side? Or should I wait until the passenger side is done?

Hopefully, the passenger side will be quicker, now that I know what I'm doing.

BTW It's these speakers.

I tried them out, seem good. Sound quality is ok, but I think I'll know better when the right hand side is in.

I am a little disappointed though. They started to distort at about 50% volume.

Not sure where to put the crossover yet, though. May have to glue it into the door pocket. Need access for fuses and treble gain adjuster.

Arse! It's raining. Can't do passenger door. :(

I've taken a few pictures though. It may help other Stilo owners if they are considering replacing their speakers. I'll edit and host them now. Nowt else to do. :I

The tweeter housing is on three 'hooks'. It just pops out with a bit of effort. Be careful not to scratch it though :I

The grill for the Fiat tweeter pops out too. The hole wasn't big enough to flush fit my new tweeter, so I drilled it larger, with one of these

The Kenwood tweeter fits nice and snug now.

It was a little difficult to replace the mid/woofer as I didn't remove the whole door. I snapped off the speaker grill to check for clearance. (NB The grill isn't on removable poppers. I will have to glue it back on [V] ) It is a little close on the NE side, but once I powered it up, there was no interference. [^]

Tweeter looks cool, real good fit, could be standard!
Are they still distorting?
I'm just wondering if you had the bass up really high with the standad Fiat speakers? Might that be the problem?

Nah, the EQ is on flat.

I have fitted the other side now, but haven't done a proper sound check. At work atm [V] It's perfect weather for crusin' too. [:(!]

I'm my own worst enemy. Now I have the head unit and front speakers upgraded, I want to replace the rear ones and fit a sub.

I did the passenger side the other week. It still took a few hours, but definitely quicker than before.

I ordered a set of Clarion SRX1784 speakers yesterday for the rear. Should get them Tuesday. I got them from here, they're very cheap.

I'm going to have to complete some more research on subs and enclosures before I purchase them, though.

Oh, yes, the crossovers. I ended up buying a roll (it was cheaper than individual pieces and I'm sure can find more uses for it ;)) of heavy duty velcro, from B&Q. A piece on the crossover, a piece on the inside of the door pocket 'et voila'. It ain't goin' nowhere until I want it to. :)

Looks nice mate, best to take your time over these things.
What sub are you thinking of getting??
I can recommend DB Audio's Raptors i have two and are very good for the price, 10" versions are rated better than JL, Rocky Fos, Alpine, Macaudio etc.

I have considerably more mods, THAN YOU!
