looks messed up is this a spring problem or a shock absorber problem?

car feels horrible driving over any bumps in the road.
Thanks

Spring busted, very common, there was a recall for spring catchers to be fitted to Stilo's for free to prevent the sharp ends penetrating the tyres....

New pair of front springs required...

If you are going to fit coilovers in a short while I would only replace the broken spring.

I have one such you can have for free. Either collect or pay the carriage.

Davren thanks for letting me know buddy :D

Peat thank you very much for the offer but already bought some cheapo ones today that me and dad are gonna fit tomoz thank you so much for the offer tho :)

How did things go with fitting the springs. Not an easy job, I've done it twice myself.

hey bud thanks for asking well i was at work so dad set of doing it and before he even started he realised the shocks were knackered aswell lol so we bought new shocks waiting for them to arrive today then the operation can begin :D

My springs look the same as yours one worn on one side it passed the mot like that tho hope to replace them next week now ive got some cash. How do you know if the shocks are buggered too? Ive also been getting a squealing sound which i thought was the wheel bearing as it used to happen when turning left but with the summer heat it happens randomly and stops when i apply light pressure to the brakes so think i need some copper grease behind the caliper.

Im gonna take the struts off just and bring them to a garage and get them to do it just as cheap as buying good spring compressors. How do i know if the shocks are knackered?

Bounce each corner of the car a couple times then back away, if the bouncing settles and stops quickly then your shocks are fine. If your car just carries on bouncing away for a bit then your shocks are nackered lol.

Do you find the car handles better with your new setup? Last week i took a corner too fast on the offslip of the motorway and had some serious understeer prob due to the knackered springs anyways managed to slam the breaks abit then steer sharp left and avoided the barrier pooped meself abit :p my passenger wasnt too phased by it i guess he didnt realise how close it was.

It feels stiff when doing the bounce test, as one would expect with brand new shock lol.

My driving style has changed a lot, I've grown out of trying to do 80+ everywhere as most new drivers do. I still have my fun, but I don't expect the MW out of all the stilo range to be a great sporty car for slinging it around the bends.

I can still have fun with her (can't bring myself to call her an "it" lol) and the "torque-y" nature of the 1.9 jtd's mean that if I'm "having fun" with someone in a sportier car, I can make up for when I have to take a bend slower when I get onto the straights. With that in mind, the ride isn't harsh like a race car. It is still comfortable to drive.

I definitely haven't experienced the dreaded "stilo wallow" I have seen plastered all over here and heard from some friends who work at garages and have had stilos in.

If there's anything more specific you'd like to know, just ask. But tbh, I've had the car off the road a lot customizing, fixing and fault finding other stuff. Ah the joys of Stilo ownership lol.

ChrisMClark;2812871 Are Boge Turbo shocks still in favour? Or am I waaaay out of touch? :p[/QUOTE said:

Boge, KYB, Bilstein B4 and Sachs gas shocks are all 'much of a muchness'. As the saying goes; ' You pays your money and you makes your choice'!
