Technical Stilo Schumacher tyre size/cost?

i just had all 4 changed at a cost of £148 each - thats for pirrelli's - the man a the shop told me that apparently 225's are not very common and there were only a choice of 4 makes - pirrelli, dunlop, a buget and the original continentals. the bugets were £66 each and were "best avoided" as they are made of thinner rubber which made them sag in the middle. he said you would be very lucky if you got 18 months out of them. the dunlop were £10 more but he said they were crap (which supprised me?) and he did'nt rate the contys much either saying that they were suseptable to cracking ( they were £2 more) which just left the pirrellis so i thought italian tyre for an italian car!(y) the only problem i had was finding the right tyre pressures as the book only goes up to 17"? so if anyone has it please let us know?:D

The FIAT recommended tyre pressures for the Schumi are 37psi (front) and 33psi (rear). Personally have never had any signs of 'cracking' on my Contis...

no, i must admit i did'nt have any on mine but the missus did on her fiesta, right in the middle of the tread, 37psi seems abit high? they only stuck 33 in at the tyre centre? i might well try that and see what happens! (BANG!!:D)

anyone herd of rotella tyres? £60 ish each....else i might be going with nankang ns2's (got them atm and they are good)

Call me old-fashioned, but when it comes to that tiny rubber contact patch which is all that stands between you and a hasty exit from the road, my advice is go for the best brand you can afford. The Schumi is a (relatively) high performance car and unknown, budget brand tyres are best avoided IMHO.

hmm in the end went for falken ZE912's @ £63 each!

pretty cheap tyre site...and the falkens get better review than my current nankangs...should be decent....
the wheels are on there way down from bradford, then to BJV engineering for a refurb in silver chrome :)....excited now....although its been a pricey venture...

Are there any consequences of using 225's rather than 215's?

The `safe’ route is to stay `within spec’ (i.e. as given in your OH). If you go outside spec then it’s advisable to let your insurer know – then should you have a `disappointing incident’ you’ll avoid the (possible) you-failed-to-declare-a-mod argument.

Presumably your OH gives 215/40R18(?) I believe the standard Stilo tyres roll at 813(±6) revs/ml. Then 215/40R18 is almost centred at 814 revs/ml. The 225/40R18 rolls at 804 – but then marginally outside of a 195/65R15 at 807 revs/ml.

Perhaps worth pointing out (the obvious?) that given it’s argued the Schumacher requires a performance tyre – then you should compare like-with-like. For example, it’s unrealistic to compare Nankang (budgets) & ZE912 (touring) against say FK452 (performance) tyres.
